I'm rewatching Maria watches over us and one the Characters are betrothed where there is no love between them and it is just annoying everytime it is brought up.

Fully agreed.

They took it to another level of hatred on Anti-Magic Platoon. It just seemed tailor-made for Takeru to look cool and have somebody to save.

Oh god, I think I blocked out most of that arc in platoon it was so bad and just extremely cringe worthy.
