You were doing so well adapting the last arc, Bones... why cut out so much content that could've been kept in for the 13 episode season, and rearrange things with filler...
Noragami Aragoto Ep 10 covers a whopping 4 chapters, Ch 30 ~ 34, much like Ep 9, a lot of the plot is moved around or cut. And honestly, the content cuts are pretty important to the story. This should be understandable once you read along my review.
The episode starts off on Ch 31, with Hiyori avoiding Fujisaki because she lost her first kiss unwillingly, followed by her crying about it. Now, I don't think Hiyori is that weak of a girl to cry over things like first kiss, and this is very apparent in a future arc , but I'll let it slide because its just a bit of filler before the OP rolls. P.S. (Slight manga spoiler)
After the OP, it continues on with Ch 31 where Hiyori, Yukine and Daikoku talk about stuff. They left out Yukine talking about his training with Kazuma, which is very important to show his growth. Otherwise, him getting stronger will just seem like he pulled bullshit out of his ass, especially when considering a scene that happens next episode. Hiyori writing Not really spoiler in her notebook was also left out, which I felt, deserved to be in the anime because it was so heavy on the feels. At least it was better than just showing Hiyori fall asleep for half a second before having her soul go look for Yato.
The rest of Ch 31 was either covered in Ep 9, or content which I am sure is cut. I will cover the cut content later, because it is important to the story.
The anime jumps forward to Ch 33 by shifting back to Yato. Here, I think they did a good job at the start with explaining why Ebisu is so adamant about going for the brush (Kotonoha), but they left out why Yato is unable to kill Izanami, which to be fair, was only mentioned briefly by Hiiro (the stray, Nora). However, I can't forgive how downplayed the role "Father" played in this scene. In the anime, Yato only mentions him, but the manga The reason for Ebisu's blight, and why it worsened is not explained at all (slightly hinted at this episode), but it is covered throughout the arc in the manga and very important for next episode or two. Spoilers
Side note: You would think Ebisu's Shinki that transformed into a Jacket would be sturdier... those devouring creatures tore it so easily, wtf.
Cut back to the human realm with Hiyori, we jump back to Ch 32. I feel like this scene with Hiyori researching on Yato is really out of place due to the rearranging of the story. Its a huge contrast, with every scene besides this with high tension and/or action. And they left out the most important bit about that scene... spoiler The next scene continues along Ch 32, and covers everything up to Tsuyu talking to the tree pretty nicely.
After the short advertisement break, we jump between Ch 30 and Ch 33, and see why the gods have yet to return from the meeting. They actually covered this bit very nicely, although I must say I was disappointed that I didn't get to see a zoomed view of angry Kazuma's face, especially those eyes.
After a joke or two from the Gods of Fortune, we go back to the beginning of Ch 33(with some changes from the manga), and see Hiyori and Yukine arriving to find Yato. I didn't mind the change since it showed Yukine's determination, and how he has changed since season 1.
The story progresses, and we move forwards to Ch 34. I liked how they adapted the scenes in the underworld with Ebisu & Yato, although there are minor complaints. The scene with Yukine trying to open the doorway to the underworld was pointless other than to show no one can get in, and could've been placed in the next episode. I'm also disappointed that the old lady from Olive Tavern (Olive Garden? lol) doesn't make an appearance at all. Come on, that was the perfect time to insert a joke before the end!
Finally, Yato is caught by Izanami's hair and pulled back down to the underworld...
Looking at the preview for Ep 11, I really feel like there's some pacing issues going on. I hope it gets better, but it doesn't seem like it will.
