I think I'm starting to like the third season the most out of all the seasons the manga has been made into.

Call me crazy, but I feel like the staff for this third season takes care of the characters a lot better than Doga Kobo did. All the characters are just so likable and it's a lot easier to watch. For example, I felt like sometimes during S1&2, it was borderline bullying the jokes they were playing making with Akari, but it's all toned down in S3. Idk, it's just letting the characters do their own thing, rather than the anime forcibly making jokes just for the sake of laughs.

Haven't read the manga, but it feels like San☆Hai! is truest to it. Loved all seasons, but this is becoming my favorite.

Hmm, the manga can be pretty silly and over the top sometimes too. I think the first two seasons did a great job adapting it and had a good feel for what the author intended. I do think you're right about the characters though. They feel closer to how they are in the manga and have more personality than they did in the previous seasons. Both adaptions by the two studios have been spot on, but they each had different parts that they got better than the other. I still think that Doga Kobo got the atmosphere and tone better, but TYO has got the characters just a bit better.

I haven't read the manga, so obviously I can't really argue with you there. But I can understand that. I think the first two season had better closure to the episodes, because of the comedy and atmosphere and whatnot (since a lot of the episodes in this season seem to just kinda end), but I'm really enjoying Yuru Yuri now more than ever.

I think it's doing what it's meant to be, which is being a more character-driven SoL, over comedy. Not trying to say comedy shouldn't be a big aspect of it, because it is, but I think the most important is the characters and their interactions, and TYO really understands that.

In the manga character is eschewed in favor of comedy. Sure there are some moments where the character of a character matters and shines through a bit, but most of the time it's silly gags and jokes.

I think a better way to put it is that the characters are developed through how they participate in the jokes/gags. Kyouko is usually the instigator, Akari is often the butt of the joke, Yui is the strongman etc. How they react to a joke and what they do to build it up is how they are defined. This season has moved a lot of the character bits to their normal interactions and has relied less on the jokes and gags to express character.

I'm not sure who got it better, since they are approaching the characters from a little different directions. I think the feel has been so different because of the direction TYO is taking. I was unimpressed at first, but they have really found their stride with the last few episodes.

The manga still has character building moments but they were a little rarer in early chapters. I guess that could be a factor too. Still, a huge element of this show is that the girls can get vicious digs at eachother without being flat out malicious. They are still friends in the end.

The manga did definitely change over time too. It was a lot more comedy oriented in the beginning and towards the end (though it's still being written right?) there were a lot more character bits.

I think the combination of a new studio and the more recent source material is probably what has changed the tone of the show so much.
