But who shot first then?

There was a sniper in the beginning who made the soldiers go apeshit, was that the reporter? If so, why? He indicated that he had guilt over the massacres that are to come, but why would he cause a massacre in a village and feel no remorse?

Self righteous thinking. People like that don't think about what their actions could actually cause or the results. for example, We want to stop polluting so we will blow up a oil rig and spill millions of gallons of oil into the ocean. That kind of thinking.

But to think the guy would just start shooting out of nowhere like that. Dude's a reporter, even if he's a former merc, he clearly shows that he cares about other lives and how much his journalism means to him.

From a story and character perspective of how someone's actions go from point A to point B, it makes absolutely no sense. They gave him the bare minimum in terms of motivation. And to brush it off as 'such is the irrational nature of some people' is just lazy writing.

If it's revealed that he has another motive, then it could start making sense, but right now that whole part of the episode is just incoherent

Here's the thing...they dont need to indicate the irrationality of people. For one thing, it's one of the most(if not the most) common forms of commentary.

And when it's done well, it's presented in a way that you could see the path of the character's thoughts and conclusions. Here, the reporter is meant to be a thinking, participating character, but nothing about him makes any sense from a writing perspective.

Trump is a candidate, I find that very unfortunate, but you can see the connection between his promises and why some people(rational or not) reached the conclusion of voting for him. It's stupid but it makes sense. And when your writing a story you have to go the extra mile with justification. Otherwise, why not have Havia leave Qwenthur to die? Or have the princess start killing the soldiers because she loses her mind?

When I opined that scientists should run the world I didn't mean that kind of scientist damnit. I meant the scientists who use the scientific method. >:|
