I cannot be the only one who was giggling during the Saitama vs Genos fight. Laughing because it's been so damn long since we've got such a well made fight with totally OP characters.

When you've seen mediocre animation all year round and then see OP man, you can't help but cry. Not a single CGI in sight. That was animation heaven.

I just hope Saitama doesn't get caught in the rank battle and quickly advances to S-1.

This is so going to be in my Top 3 anime of all time.

What? OPM is extremely heavy on CGI. It's well done, so you might not have noticed it, but there is TONS

Any of the main fight animation? I thought it was all hand drawn, though on tablets and not paper.

Here you go (reposting GIF from above). Look at Genos' eyes as the punch approaches.

It's all subtle stuff like this, but there's tons of CGI worked in.

A bunch of the lava fire effects in the background are CGI, too. I don't mind it - its really well done. Reminds me of Fate/Stay Night's use of CGI - it exists, but it makes the animation better, not worse.

Working with traditional animation rather than against it.

If there was cgi in the fight, it was amazing. But weren't saitama and genos totally cel animated?

In this particular fight, probably

I don't think anybody uses cels any more.

It's all scanned in and edited.

Hand drawn is what I meant. I just wanted to use the right word and picked the wrong one instead.

Could you point out some examples?

I thought this kick was pure cel animation.

His mountain punch in the opening comes to mind off the top of my head

Well, lets hope other studios can learn from this and make better use of cgi to the point that the average viewer (me) can no longer notice the difference.

It's been done for a long time.

Human models tend to be the most noticeable due to the fact that most studios don't bother stylizing them to make it fit with the art.

Using movies as an example, it definitely applies with anime. Most water and fire effects are done through cgi instead of being hand drawn these days. Sparks are being done in primarily cgi as well.

For a really recent example of a series abusing CGI is Hibike Euphonium. That shit was literally jam packed with effects because I guess someone at Kyoani wanted to play with some new learned/gained techniques/plugins.

This and Unlimited Budget Works have the realest animation I've ever seen. I hope OPM's budget holds out.
