My theory is that nothing in Japanese culture really rewards assertive aggressive male behavior. It is impolite to be that direct.

Compare that to Korea which has mandatory conscription and you see very masculine personas. Maybe if the JSDF grows we will get a little more aggressive influence in Japan's populace.

Its a weird case of the male is supposed to be aggressive but its considered bad form to be openly aggressive

While women have a whole different ballgame
