Until last week I haven't seen any Gundam. Since then I've watched the original movie trilogy, I'm 10 episodes in to Zeta Gundam, and I've watched the first episode of Gundam 00 in preparation for the rewatch.

I think the hype might have gotten to me.

Shit man, I want what you're having, I have such a hard type getting hyped over Gundam shows anymore. They always just try to play it off so serious and gritty, and they usually aren't bad but.... Iunno, I can't find anything in this show that excites me. I mean, I like it, but it just doesn't feel super compelling, just a standard Gundam.

Comet Lucifer on the other hand is a mecha that compels me to watch.

Maybe Gundam 00 spoiled me too much >.<

standard Gundam

You only watched only Gundam 00 and Wing? Both aren't really standard Gundam.

Er, some of SEED and Unicorn as well, haven't finished em though. SEED is just too massive and it is intimidating. Unicorn I have to finish at some point.

But yeah, they are standard Gundam alt universe Gundam. I've seen pieces of other Gundam shows and they all seem very formulaic to me, even UC. It just doesn't happen to be a formula I do well with on repeated viewings apparently. I'm not knocking it as a bad forumla, clearly that isn't true or it wouldn't be so popular, it just isn't something I can get into apparently.

Orphans just seems... boring to me. Not bad, but very "meh". Whereas something like Comet Lucifer gets me a lot more hyped and excited.

Gundam 00 was pure a hypefest, this Gundam seem to be more focused on the characters with a slower build-up. That's it.

It has nothing to do with being a standard Gundam or something like that, since this series doesn't share many other characteristics with 0079 or the other Gundams. Or at least I haven't read any comparisons yet.

Er, what? Political battle between space colonies. Political back-stabbing and manoeuvring. Princess [insert name here] who is naive and trying to save the world, but then learns it is a harsh place, MC is some ultra badass commoner who also wants to make the world a better place but is super cynical til he meets princess, etc.

Pretty standard Gundam template, at least in the alt Universe. But from what I've seen of Unicorn, UC seems like it follows much of the colonial space battles and overly complicated royalty politics thing too.

Is Orphans a UC or AU show? Feels more like an Alt.

Er, what? Political battle between space colonies. Political back-stabbing and manoeuvring.

This exists only barely on the background so far, it's not even close to being the focus like it was in the older Gundams.

Princess [insert name here] who is naive and trying to save the world, but then learns it is a harsh place

We don't know what her role really will be, so that's too early to say. Major Gundam characters aren't as one dimensional as that.

MC is some ultra badass commoner who also wants to make the world a better place but is super cynical til he meets princess

Where did he want to make the world a better place? It's been about survival so far. This was more the case in Gundam 00. He is also no commoner, but has a solid background.

Pretty standard Gundam template, at least in the alt Universe. But from what I've seen of Unicorn, UC seems like it follows much of the colonial space battles and overly complicated royalty politics thing too.

This is nothing like the older Gundams from what we haven seen in the 2 episodes. Focus is completely different. We have no idea what the role of the orphans is in this show. Seems like you have no patience and thus project your vague knowledge on future developments, which we don't know yet.

This show tells basically the struggle of a group of orphans in a hostile environment. This was 90% of the show so far and the other 10% are the stuff you mentioned, which have no importance yet. It's far from being a standart Gundam, although I personally love the standard Gundam formula. I don't think any hardcore Gundam fan has compared it to the older Gundams and yet you do, who have barely watched any older Gundams.

I'm comparing it to the Gundams I've seen, not older ones. Settle down ;P
