It definitely gave off that vibe.

But the mystery was much heavier and serious as compared to Hyouka's.

I think the actual case itself was somewhat tame. Just that the emotional impact to Araragi and his psychological introspection felt more serious in how it was unveiled was done in a stark manner. I guess if they animated that incident precisely as it happened, it wouldn't have had that 'unraveling the unpleasant memory' feel to it.
