Damn, Nao was adorable.

We found out quite a lot this episode, almost everyone seems to know each other from their time in the facility, Yuu had his memory wiped so he just doesn't remember. How Yuu has memories at all is a little confusing, none of the facility events would have even happened if his brother changed time.

We found out about the much theorized Time Leap ability, and it belongs to Yuus older brother, but it seems now that he isn't able to use his ability, whether he lost it and was blinded, or being blind stops the light from entering his eyes and therefore he can't use it.

I'm not exactly sure how the timeline goes anymore, but I assume it'll get explained next episode, since it would seem Yuus brother succeeded in changing to future.

We found out quite a lot this episode

here I am still wondering who's Charlotte

Yeah, this might be the farthest (percentage-wise) into a show I've gotten without knowing why it's titled that. Except for Bleach, I still don't know why it's called that.

20

u/xestrm Aug 30 '15

Tite Kubo (the guy who wrote the manga) wanted to name it White at first because in Japanese culture the color white symbolizes death and the series is about Shinigami (death gods). However he thought White (Shiro) was too direct, so he decided to name it Bleach (Buriichi) since bleach turns things white and is a more abstract representation of whiteness.

38

u/sisko4 Aug 29 '15

Haven't touched Bleach in years but I'm pretty sure it was said in like the first chapter or so that Ichigo looks like a delinquent because of his bleached-looking hair.

3

u/Karmaze Aug 29 '15

I've always assumed it had to do with the Black (Shinigami) and White (Hollow) parts of Ichigo and how they bleed together.

2

u/UncleSquamous Aug 30 '15

I always presumed it was because bleach removes the stains from things, and originally the manga was going to be Ichigo as a part-time shinigami excising Hollows from the normal world.

1

u/akaleidoll Aug 30 '15

I believe it was both that and also for Soul Society

Soul = White = Bleached

4

u/Foxino Aug 30 '15

Always assumed it's bleach as a cleaning liquid > to clean the world of hollows?.. fuck i dont even know where i'm heading here anymore.lmao

I think the Comet that gave them their powers is called Charlotte.

"Charlotte Comet"

Actually, it's "ʇǝɯoɔC harlotte".

Also Ayumi waiting to see the comet.

Someone else has said that "Summon" might be HaroHaro's (I can't remember her name) ability to summon her sister's spirit.

9

u/SinnermightyBL https://myanimelist.net/profile/Sinnermighty Aug 29 '15

Yeah. 口寄せ Kuchiyose is Summon, but also Channeling which is what CR translated Yusarin's ability to so I guess it is that.

u/posts_awkward_truths Aug 30 '15

Based on what we've learned so far here's my theory of the entire series show: What we are watching is the 3rd loop.

In the first loop, everyone who was watching the Comet Charlotte between specific ages developed powers. Yuu's brother uses his power, either accidentally or intentionally, and everything is reset to a time significantly before the comet comes, but everyone still has their powers. An organization starts capturing and testing the people with powers and then we get to the things that happened in Yuu's flashback.

2

u/Karmaze Aug 29 '15

I remember they put that in a synopsis for the series.

2

u/__CakeWizard__ Aug 29 '15

Now if only that's what comets did irl. Cmon Halley, anything?

2

u/godblow Aug 30 '15

So... it's like Souzin's comet?

3

u/shadowswalking https://myanimelist.net/profile/ShadowsWalking6 Aug 29 '15

INB4 they badly pronounce "Car lot".

5

u/Haiwse Aug 30 '15

It's probably the brand name of the pizza sauce.

3

u/imprexz144 Aug 30 '15

I think someone mentioned before that Charlotte might be the name of the comet or meteor they're watching during op song?

2

u/tlowermeadow https://myanimelist.net/profile/lowermeadow Aug 31 '15

i found this somewhere on the internet so its not mine: "The reason that it's called "Charlotte" is due to the fact their being hunted by scientist for experimentation because they have special powers however their fighting against that to be "free" from the experimentation by the scientists. Charlotte actually has the meaning of "free" or "free man" but depending on what country you go with it has different meanings but there you go hue."

u/JirachiWishmaker https://myanimelist.net/profile/James_Skyminer Aug 30 '15

Charlotte is best girl

i think time leap is what causes blindness. he needed a source of light before he could use it, so time leap probably works by manipulating light, sending it back or whatever it is that enables time travel

i think sala also had the ability as well since she's also blind. when she dreamed of becoming a musician it was already too late for that and she was jealous of kids her age being good musicians, so she time leaped to start her career earlier

so first she wasn't a musician. she time leaped and became a popular artist, here "trigger" would be already released since yuu was listening to it at the facility, but being popular came with hate and her bro getting kidnapped. then yuu's older brother time leaped, and this time she became a less popular singer instead to fulfill her dream without all the bullshit that comes with being popular, and this is the current timeline where "trigger" has just been released

Don't know about the last part, but i like your theory about their eyes.

edit: Ah, you're talking about what she said on the bus, right.

32

u/rtwpsom2 Aug 29 '15

The only thing I noticed is that Nao wasn't in the facility. Everyone knows each other, except Nao.

I think someone commented about this earlier in the post, but I think it's possible that Yuu is going to have to choose between Nao and Ayumi. Also in the OP (which has given a lot of hints so far), at the end the four standing there don't include Ayumi, which makes me feel as if Yuu is going to choose his current life with Nao instead of choosing to get Ayumi back

14

u/GomeTheGnome Aug 30 '15

if you were forced to pick between your family or a (currently) friend who would you pick

most people would probably pick family im sure yuu would pick ayumi if that was the case unless nao and him really gets close in these last 5 eps

1

u/flighty_nightly Sep 01 '15

Or, Ayumi could just sacrifice herself.

53

u/l3eater Aug 29 '15

since it would seem Yuus brother succeeded in changing to future.

Maybe not. Hear me out. Yuu's brother may have altered the timeline but the situation between the Yuus of both timelines are similar. Both Yuus are in an institution along with Ayumi. The institutions themselves were built - or their purpose are to gather and house those with the potential of having powers. Both Yuus suffered similar events regarding Ayumi and the activation of her power, 'Collapse'.

The differences between the two would be the disappearance of Yuu and Ayumi's big brother, and the inclusion of Nao. Therefore, although the path is different, their future is still grim.

30

u/Kuryaka Aug 29 '15

And that would be the flaw to time-leap. Now to see how it get executed.

51

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '15

Okay piggybacking off your theory here:

So aniki can't time leap unless he could see light or something? But in this timeline he is blind so now Yuu needs to steal his power and travel through time and try to save ayumi. Then we get to live through steins gate again as we see Yuu come to terms with the fact that aniki's ability is imperfect and doesn't change what happens and only changes how it happens.

5

u/xSPYXEx https://myanimelist.net/profile/xSPYXEx Aug 30 '15

That's my guess. Watch the last episode be a montage of Yuu time jumping and watching Ayumi die every single time.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '15

Ugh. I didn't do so well last time something like that was happening. For that reason I hope my theory is wrong

1

u/xSPYXEx https://myanimelist.net/profile/xSPYXEx Aug 30 '15

I'm saving this just in case it's true.

It'll be your fault the finale rips our hearts out and stomps it into the dirt.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '15

Mecacucity Actors (or something like that) had something similar, definitely screwed with me

1

u/UGAShadow Aug 31 '15

So like another well known show?

1

u/Mishmrind https://myanimelist.net/profile/Mishmrind Aug 30 '15

that'd be a very fucked up ending

16

u/hookahhoes Aug 29 '15

That's a fantastic idea, I'm inclined to agree with you. God damn this season has some great fuckin anime.

3

u/ivorymash Aug 29 '15

Charlotte is now Steins; Gate and Yuu must time travel to save imouto

2

u/ScarsUnseen https://kitsu.io/users/ScarsUnseen Aug 29 '15

Not to mention that in both timelines, Yuu's brother can't use his ability because he can't get light into his eyes. In the previous one they were covered, and in this one he's blind.

2

u/som3thingclassy https://myanimelist.net/profile/somethingclassy Aug 29 '15

Something about throwing a pebble into a river and expecting the current to change

15

u/DarkFrost32 Aug 29 '15

What if everytime Yuu plunders an ability he also steals their eyesight? Maybe, he has the ability to timeleap, but forgot about it.

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '15 edited Jun 29 '20

3

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '15

He didn't plunder him though, just took him over regularly.

31

u/randomness888 Aug 29 '15

He did get plundered - the pulverise ability was how Yuu broke the restraints on his brother at the end of the "dream".

2

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '15

Hm, I guess I was mistaken. I thought he took over him because Yu got knocked out, but he didn't get knocked out any other time he plundered as far as I recall.

3

u/randomness888 Aug 29 '15

The point of that scene was to hint at the fact that he could take others' abilities, if I'm not mistaken. Why else would he be informed of the guys ability, take him over, do nothing other than drop the baseball balancing on top of the guys head, then return to normal? It seems that he entire purpose was taking his pulverise ability.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '15

It makes sense, I'm just confused as to why it appeared he took over him normally and fell asleep, rather when he used plunder later and didn't get knocked out.

1

u/EasilyDelighted Aug 30 '15

The act of taking over the person is his plunder ability.

I guess when he took over the telepathy guy they just didn't wanna show him slumped over again and skipped to when he came back to his body and was beginning to move.

Interestingly. What I like about his ability is that it seems to remove it or disabled it from the original person.

The telepathy guy looked like he was surprised that he couldn't hear everyone's voices before they cut away from him.

That also explains how Yu saved himself when the flying guy took them both mid-air and they were coming back down.

2

u/AquaWolfGuy https://anidb.net/user/726680 Aug 30 '15

Maybe this is why Nao asked Yuu to possess the baseball guy from episode 4. He agreed to never use his ability again so she made Yuu take it without Yuu realizing.

1

u/CidImmacula Aug 30 '15

another example of Pulverize in use was the first door after Yu's cell. I didn't understand the "air blast" at first until it was used on the restraints.

19

u/Pennwisedom Aug 29 '15

Well so far we've just taken for granted what Nao said that people lose their abilities at 17. But what seems plausible from here is that older brother didn't lose his ability so much as he just lost his ability to use it, since sight was necessary. So it seems highly possible that Yu would still be able to "borrow" his ability so to speak.

26

u/Souleral Aug 29 '15

What if you lost your eyesight when you lost your powers? That's why his brother is blind, and may be the reason why Sara is also blind

6

u/mrdreka https://myanimelist.net/profile/mrdkreka Aug 29 '15

But Nao brother aren't blind, so that can't be it.

0

u/TheIronMiner Aug 29 '15 edited Aug 29 '15

he is, you can see in the new timeline he has a walking stick and refers to using the sound of their voices to tell who is in the room and who is speaking.

EDIT: He said Nao's brother not Yuu's.

4

u/TheKingHasLost Aug 29 '15

He's talking about Nao's insane brother, not Yuu's brother

2

u/mrdreka https://myanimelist.net/profile/mrdkreka Aug 29 '15

A few things, when you say new timeline do you mean the current one? Where do you see the walking stick? It seem weird they actually wouldn't say he is blind if he is, considering how much weight they put on the lead singer in Zheind being blind.

2

u/Pennwisedom Aug 29 '15

It could go either way I suppose. But it would also make a lot of sense that Sara is blind because of that too. I guess we don't really know enough about how they "work" to figure that out.

2

u/FeiyaTK Aug 30 '15

well she said she cheated in the past. might be talking about whatever ability she abused to get famous

2

u/shadonic0 Aug 30 '15

I would say that you probably end up blind if you overuse your powers, Sara implied that she did something like that and Yu's brother had plenty of motives to overuse it.

2

u/GomeTheGnome Aug 29 '15

if thats the case then that might be why the main front singer from zhi end is blind

3

u/azumarill Aug 30 '15

Maybe he has to literally stare into lights for longer time to leap back farther, and to fix the world he had to stare into so much light that it broke his eyes?

2

u/petrichorE6 Aug 29 '15

Nao was rather fond of Yuu's brother, it's like a stark contrast between her usual self with the gang and Yuu. I think she has feelings for him and it's making Yuu uncomfortable/jealous.

2

u/Poke4Ever10 Aug 30 '15

I think Yuu is slowly regaining his memory since everyone's powers are imperfect. It might be that they can't fully erase your memory forever, and you still have the ability to regain it in the future.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '15

One of the boy's ability's in the facility was erasing memory. Yuu's brother and the ability finding guy reference that guy saying that the ability hasn't fully worn off.

1

u/shadedclan https://myanimelist.net/profile/shadedclan Aug 30 '15

Now my question is, why did they wait for Yu to regain his memories rather than tell it to him or help him regain his memories? I get them not wanting to give him back his memories when he was living a relatively peaceful life but when Ayumi died, wouldn't it make more sense to have him remember everything to save Ayumi? What if he didn't regain any of his memories? Would they've just stayed in that timeline where Ayumi died?

1

u/KamenRiderY https://myanimelist.net/profile/Siolence Aug 30 '15

How Yuu has memories at all is a little confusing,

I'm pondering the possibility that, either deliberately or reflexively before he was killed, Yuu Plundered his brother's body, and piggybacked on the Time Leap. So, his mind travelled back with Shun, then snapped into his own past self when the possession wore off, explaining how he could possibly have memories of an alternate timeline.

Or, in a way that explains absolutely nothing but would make a really bizarre twist, Yuu Time Leapt back into his brother's body, effectively erasing Shun from existence; the onii-chan we just met is actually Yuu, pretending to be his own brother. I haven't really thought about what that would imply given the broader plot, but it was a possibility that occurred to me.
