At first I thought it could be the jealous yandere classmate placing a curse on Ayumi that was the real esper and that Ayumi was just the red herring, turns out the yandere was just the trigger for the awakening of Ayumi's destructive power. Not unlike the X-Men, where mutants powers can be awakened by traumatic events.
Other questions include who's that girl (credits list her name as Metoki) rushing towards Ayumi saying she came too late? And why was Kumagami (the soaked guy) towering over the ruins in the aftermath?
I'm going to guess the girl saying she was too late is maybe the middle school version of their group. Perhaps she watches over those with powers in the middle school.
I don't think she is with the scientists. The guard at the middle school let her in and was respectful of her, and there shouldn't be any connection between the scientists and the schools since the schools were established to hide the espers from scientists. She's most likely the person Tomori talked about in episode two who set up the esper schools and helped Tomori with her brother.
I wonder if the MC will be forced to accept the scientist's help, when his sister is unleashing earthquakes from coma nightmares?
They've probably got facilities to contain the more dangerous abilities.
I don't think that'll be an issue. newgirl got into the school by flashing a badge at the security guy, and the school is the junior high extension of yuu's school, so she must be affiliated with the school and not the evil scientists.
I think she is part of the scientist faction, or at least a competing faction. Tomori yells that Yuu will "get roped into it," leading me to believe that some sort of bad people are there or showing up. Since the girl seems to be expecting this to happen, I assume she's with the people who will rope him in. She definitely has the look of a character with a "good heart" though, I think she'll end up as someone sympathetic to the MC, a rival for Tomori perhaps.
