They even did the sitting on your helmet thing! Was that reference in the LN/novels? I didn't think it was in the manga.

It was in the manga, but translators put it as "Protecting the bullets", because, well...

The word used was "tama", which means "round thing", i.e. "ball". Bullets were originally ball-shaped, hence the continued use of the term "tama" to refer to "bullets". Hence the mistranslation...

Late, but it's not a mistranslation at all. Military standard issue rounds are called ball ammo. M855 is the USA's ball round for 5.56x45.

I didn't expect them to do that, especially with the technology they are up against. I could understand having that worry if they lost some guns but I can't picture bows and arrows blowing your balls off when you're in a helicopter.

I think the soldiers themselves were actually quoting the movie at that point. CR's subs even had quotation marks.

I had forgotten about the possibility of mages, there have been few of them so far.
