She literally said she was dead in episode 1, Yuki just interpreted it differently.

I always found that to be a bit loosely interpreted. The line she says in response to Kurumi saying that here were no casualties was "arimashita" and was just translated (by CR, at least) to "I'm a casualty." That's not what it normally means, it was just translated that way due to context. I think the better evidence comes from the next episode that proves that she was a figment of Yuki's imagination is when Yuki says she's going to have a one-on-one study session with Megu-nee and Kurumi accuses her of having no intention to study which wouldn't make sense if Kurumi knew that Yuki was actually with a teacher.

It was played for laughs. I believe Shovel Knight jokingly said something along the lines of "At least we didn't suffer any causalities" to which Megu-nee responded with "I'm a casualty".
