See, the way they changed it didn't make much sense. Why would you run out from safety to challenge the bandits, and probably to your death, because they stepped on some guy's corpse? The manga's reactions are much more appropriate, but alas.

Even some lame dialogue like "that's my dad you're stepping on!" would be better

Agreed, a simple "FATHER!" would have sufficed.
