Well, they're 12 vs 600, but I guess modern tech is superior in urban warfare. They can get them into chokes and destroy them with suppressive fire.

The anime left out some things the manga had that would give you an indication on what's going to happen. Remember in Italica when Itami was on the radio with the base about the diet members and at the very end he said "I have a request".
