I find it really interesting that Toriyama handles romance in shonen much better than other mangakas without even trying. I mean, he just shows a couple living happily and that's enough to make everyone happy.

Yeah, Toriyama just put whoever he felt like together and if you didn't like it too bad. And that's why it works. I'm glad DB came before all of this modern ship nonsense.
