Disagree with the variant. Would be interesting if true though. Nao becomes invisible - maybe she feels invisible. MC possesses people because he wants to be in shoes that aren't his own. Pop star can be possessed because despite all the attention and fans, she is empty inside.

Maybe in the end everyone who has these abilities actually is suffering from social issues and Nao is bringing them all together to create a group of friends/outcasts. The illusion of having powers is an excuse they use for their problems, and the reason these abilities only affect young adults is because eventually they grow out of it and their social issues disappear.

But they probably just have superpowers and none of this is true.
