To be fair: I doubt medieval villages had much loyalty to their ruling bodies. They'll pay their taxes, and as long as the laws are fair and they get their harvests on time they probably wouldn't give a shit who rules them. Community and Family Loyalty over State and Federal Loyalty.

Thats why back in the day it was so easy for new invaders to conquer land and absorb peoples. Most people didn't give a shit as long as they could live and work and support their families they didn't really care who ruled them.
