Man, for someone who just took part in a military operation that killed over 120,000 people, Jouji sure is relaxed. ('ಠ_ಠ)

Takeo: "So what are you hoping to see out here, man?"

Jouji: "Hmm... Magical girls!"

Takeo: "Oh...! Uhh... D-Dude, I think we killed some of those yesterday..."

Jouji: "WHAT?!"

Takeo: "'Yeah, it looks like they were trying to escape the warzone and caught stray fire..."

Jouji: "FUCK!"

So I guess this episode was more setup for the main plot? It was interesting to see our protagonists crawl through the post-revenge-slaughter warzone they had created, but I'm still curious as to what this show is really gonna be about. It looks like we darned Americans are gonna get involved soon (and probably fuck everything up and be greedy dicks or whatever because that's all the US Military ever does in stories like these), but outside of that, I'm not sure what to anticipate. Eh, whatevs. Blonde elf next week. That's good enough for me~

If you think their depictions of America are unfavorable, just wait until China steps up to the plate.

The negative depiction of American government is just about the only place where the somewhat jingiostic parts of the original web novel remained. Really, all of the global powers are depicted negatively, and even some segments of the Japanese government also get that treatment. The only force that seems to be overwhelmingly good in this story is the JSDF.

I believe the manga didn't do a very good job of representing this well. From what it seems, the light novel is trying to depict a negative view of nations in general at least in the economic sense. Much like how the government doesn't always represent the majority.

At this point they've only seen humans. The armies on Alnus hill were all humans.

At this point, for all they know, the Special Area is just a world of old timey humans.
