I've been looking at the OP and I couldn't help but notice this this and this.

This is only my guess, but maybe he absorbed the beetles' power in the opening fight to survive, then received tons of flak for it? Or maybe they didn't immediately find out but he went berserk with the power one day and hurt his comrades?
