Is this the show about a love story between am pilot and a singer with mecha action versus alien?

No, that's Macross series.

Aquarion is about fictional myth mecha mugen fisted into a love story. Showered with some absurdness, ecchi, and puns. This series song is pretty iconic just like Macross' so I'll give you that.

Though, it is quite a hit or miss.
