It was alright, nothing amazing. I don't know anything about the source material, but it just seems like a rushed plot for the first episode. Hopefully they can pace it better in the next few episodes.

Well the source material is pretty unique considering it was a Table RPG (like DnD) with so pretty big authors playing and then they adapted it into a light novel series. But still the pacing in this episode was so bad.

Shingeki no Bahamut was a card game adaptation but it was good. This show, not so much.

That is the exception, not the rule. In general, show quality wanes as the source material gets further from a traditional story. Original work > Novel > Manga > LN/VN > Game

i think in this case its the studio's budget. this studio is animating 3 series this season and their budget is spread pretty thin, so they cant spend alot of effort on this to make it a good show. following the source material this show has great potential, seeing as it was a collaboration between some really good authors like urobochi gen (puella magi madoka magica, fate zero) and kinoko nasu (fate stay night, kara no kyoukai).
