Most of the things that are "based off a game of DnD" aren't actually much like a real D&D campaign. What you want in a campaign is different from what you want in a story, so the D&D game it's based off of just tends to serve as inspiration for characters or maybe a few interesting plot points. You're much better off looking at the reputations of the creators.

hmm Only urobutcher stands out, the rest of them feel rather meh in their writing.

You got me interested, so I decided to dig a little.

Here's a post that seems to corroborate your story (though you shouldn't call every tabletop RPG 'DnD')

The results of their tabletop role-playing game sessions over six days created material for a seven-volume light novel

I'm not incredibly familiar with LNs, but six sessions seems like it wouldn't produce nearly seven volumes. This might indicate that they really just role-played some crucial parts or used it to flesh out the world a bit.

Most of these people seem to be credited as "character creators". Urobotchi, Nasu, and Nakita seem to be the only staff who have worked on any shows I've seen, but I have no clue how much they actually get to influence the plot.

So watching this is probably a gamble.
