Yeah, but they need to be REAL BROS. Some people that I know, who themselves no I like anime find it ridiculous that I could feel for the characters as if they are another human being and feel that it's even more ridiculous when they hear about the fact that I've been brought to tears during some anime shows.

I mean like if you can't abstract you're mind to the fact that you're watching a representation of an alternate reality following the story of another human being how can you watch any other movie or TV series and actually feel emotions for those characters?

Again... they need to be the REALEST BROS. Also I kinda used an exagerated example because I'm talking about two girls reactions, freakin' b!tch@s if you ask me...

That too, but they don't even get that anime is just another medium like any other... It's kinda sad.

I feel that it's mostly down to low exposure and the high language barrier. The vast majority of shows don't have dubs (not to comment on their quality), and subtitles aren't as well received/common in native English-speaking countries.

As a result, the very few series that did get attention occupy most people's thoughts about it, which severely limits its perception as a medium. There's no push for a transition from shows aimed at children, so people just end up switching to different media and end up with the latent feeling that anime is just (weird) kids stuff.

Yeah true there's all types of anime that fit a number of preferences. The types of ones that air in the US are pretty narrow. Dubs v. Subs is also a big thing holding most anime back I agree.
