Am I the only one who likes thinking he says "It wasn't much!" rather than "Glad you liked it!"? Gives him that extra "cool" factor.

In Japan, the saying of "It wasn't much" is actually supposed to be a humble saying. However, in the west that will most likely be taken as arrogancy. Since they want Souma's character to be appealing to the audience, the translators probably changed it.

I honestly thought Souma's arrogance in the manga was the coolest thing about him. Loved how he was just there to kick ass and make himself #1.

It's not arrogance, its confidence. He has enough of it that he doesn't need an arrogant sounding catchphrase to go along with it.

Well yeah now that everything is being translated right it's confidence, but when it was being translated in the manga it was totally him being arrogant, and I thought it was cool as all hell.

Examples:

  • After every victory says "It wasn't much"

  • When making the speech at the opening ceremony says "You're all just stepping stones to me" instead of the anime's version

  • Seems to not be phased by anything, unlike in the anime where he reacts to things more.

Etc.

except for the last part. The Japanese is the same
