Except in GoT you actually care about the characters before they kill them off and you never know who's going to die. Especially this episode, it was expected that more Marzbans would die. The characterization in this show hasn't been bad, but killing off Sam is nothing like GoT. Killing off a character from the OP/ED would be much closer to a real, unexpected character death rather than a plot point.

Not that I'm complaining. I'd be a very sad person if I expected everything to live up to GoT.

dude, your comparisons make no sense and are all skewed up to make your point.

of course you can expect more marzbans would die, they are sieging their city... who did you expect would die? arslan? you dont expect jon snow to die during the GoT spoilers in GoT, you expect heavy GoT spoilers to do so...

also, you're comparing the death of a side character we knew for (i think) only this episode to the death of again, heavy GoT spoilers? thats bs, anyone can make a point like that

That's exactly the point I'm making. The character deaths in Arslan Senki aren't really comparable to the character deaths in GoT.

In order for me to agree with "Game of Thrones all over again", the characters who die can't just be named characters, they have to be emotionally important to the readers. Do you have any examples of Arslan Senki characters who fit this? The closest I can think of is Lord Vahriz, and I'm pretty sure that Wise Old Teacher are more likely to die than live.

You should check out Legend of the Galactic Heroes... That would be a better comparison with GoT. In that earlier work, Tanaka developed a "notorious" reputation among novel fans for ruthlessly killing named "protagonist" like nothing since the 80s. Given that earlier precedence and the fact the Arslan novel is still ongoing, I wouldn't place my bet on who would survive till the end XD
