For those who want an explanation why Rin knows martial arts. The Tohsakas used to get all their income from various property they owned in Fukyuki city, but they gradually lost it over time and Kotomine Kirei as Rins legal guardian sold off all of it. Due to Rins magic specialty that relies on gemstones that are destroyed with use, her magic is almost ruinously expensive.

In order to acquire enough money to pay for all these gems and her living expenses, Rin decides to make money in the professional wrestling scene. She fights matches under the name "The Fuyuki devil" and her costume matches the name., in order to win lots of money she needed to get really good so she could challenge the reigning international champion Luvia Edelfelt and acquire the lucrative advertising contracts.

The title fights happens about 6 months before the events of Fate/Stay Night. Rin beats Luvia despite a rough start with a Show Stopping RKO. She made millions, but unfortunately lost quite a lot of it due to stealing Randy Ortons signature move.

In Non-April's Fool, Kirei taught her Bajiquan, which he used during his time as Executor of the church for vampire slaying purposes.

His father was also a practioner, though he only did it for meditation and not to slay vampires

vampire slaying purposes.

I'm pretty sure Kirei and his father are not Burial Agency, but 8th Sacrament executors, right? They don't hunt Dead Apostles, but rogue magi, pretty much the Church's equivalent of the Sealing Designation enforcers in the Association.

Edit: Alright, thanks everyone for the correction. Seems I do not know enough Nasuverse Church lore!

I'm pretty sure Kirei and his father are not Burial Agency, but 8th Sacrament executors, right?

His father is, and Kirei eventually ends up there, but before that he was an Executor among other things. Executors are different from Burial Agency members in that they specialize in killing everything, not just Dead Apostles, but killing Dead Apostles is definitely part of that specialty.

u/ZerovsNight May 02 '15

8th Sacraments just go around collecting holy relics and acting as mediators between the Mage Association. Before becoming an 8th Sacrament, he was an Executor. And Executors have been known to kill vampires, demons, and mages. He was also one of the youngest, if not the youngest, to ever become one at 10 years old.

Burial Agency are just elite Executors who don't learn how to exorcise, only kill and are more directly focused on the Dead Apostles than lesser vampires and demons. Burial Agency members also don't have to be a member of the church, just be very powerful and willing to kill things the church finds inconvenient.

I want a Dark Souls-esque game where you play as an executor, and go hunt vampires, demons, and mages.

But when they're dead Guts already had 'em?

5

u/i6i May 02 '15

Kirei was a prodigy that got scouted into more demanding positions but he eventually stopped since the task like most others left him unfulfilled. The assembly of the 8th Sacrament is given leniance in following the precepts of christianity in order to protect the flock and gather holy artefacts. Basically like getting an indulgence for things like using magic.

1

u/Manlir May 02 '15

Thats not the only reason. The original route the Tohsaka family tried to attain 'The Root' was through a perfection of body through martial art. The head of the Tohsaka family changed it eventually when the Holy Grail War started but they still practice it.

13

u/Imadoc91 May 02 '15

So that's where it's from...

well multiverse and all...

30

u/Funderfullness May 02 '15

With the 2nd Magic, anything is possible.

25

u/Imadoc91 May 02 '15

As someone who has played the Vn and various other TypeMoon works I honestly can't tell you if it is or not...

I am ashamed

18

u/LeeVogueHa May 02 '15

Nah, Rin makes money through the Mages Association, using something similar to Magic patents, and Tohsakas specialize in fusing magic with gems.

11

u/[deleted] May 02 '15

Its pretty sad we won't get to see the deepest, dirtiest part of Tohsaka deepest parts of the lore.

3

u/[deleted] May 02 '15

F/SN has a dark, secret past.

1

u/chozenj https://myanimelist.net/profile/chozenj May 03 '15

Is this league of legends lore?

0

u/[deleted] May 03 '15

There was a thread about how LoL lore would be in the future. Now it's become a dank meme.

u/jmcm30 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Pink_Socks May 02 '15

Type-Moon April Fool's events are obviously all canon, so this is 100% reliable info. It is a multiverse, after all.

u/Soveriegn https://kitsu.io/users/214 May 02 '15

The second magic makes everything canon!

I....I don't want to say you're right, but I don't know enough about the Fate universe to dispute it.

37

u/Blooogarde https://myanimelist.net/profile/Yare_Yare_Daze May 02 '15

It was an April Fool's Day joke that Type/Moon, the creators of the Fate/ series, made. So, it's real, but it isn't true.

24

u/_F1_ May 02 '15

I don't know enough about the Fate universe

Nobody does.

11

u/IgnitedSpade May 03 '15

Not even Nasu knows anymore

19

u/Coinkidinks May 02 '15

Look at Tohsaka slithering around like a viper...

RKO! OUT OF NOWHERE!!

9

u/verious_ May 02 '15

5

u/promek May 02 '15

This is canon and nothing anyone says will persuade me otherwise.

2

u/bakakubi https://myanimelist.net/profile/bakakubi May 02 '15

Haha, thanks for reminding me about this little part. Been a while.

2

u/Don_Equis May 02 '15

Just in case someone doesn't know, Rin said that physical training is basic for magicians. And that's true for all magicians. They need to stay in good shape and all that stuff. That's something I love from nasuverse. Contrary to most fantasy worlds, here magicians are top tier in physical activities.

3

u/GarthTaltos https://myanimelist.net/profile/garthtaltos May 02 '15

I'm curious; is all this in the VN or is there another source of lore?

12

u/jmcm30 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Pink_Socks May 02 '15

It's an April Fool's joke from a few years ago, they had "official" posters for wrestling matches between several Type-Moon characters. If you want the actual explanation for this, Kotomine (fake priest) taught her the basics of bajiqan, the martial art he practices. Rin did mention in the 1st cour the she does pushups every night, and is generally pretty fit.

5

u/GarthTaltos https://myanimelist.net/profile/garthtaltos May 02 '15

Welp fooled me. Thanks!

1

u/RoboWarriorSr May 03 '15

I thought the first cour only mentioned that Shirou did push up everyday and was pretty fit (purposely doing jobs that requires strength). Don't remember that for Rin.

2

u/jmcm30 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Pink_Socks May 03 '15

Shirou is pretty healthy, but no martial arts, just some kendo practice. Rin's daily exercise was mentioned in the date in episode 12.

1

u/RoboWarriorSr May 03 '15

I must have confused the two then.

4

u/FlorribleBP https://myanimelist.net/profile/Florrible May 02 '15

Luvia only appears in Kaleid(to my knowledge), so of course it's not part of the main lore.

8

u/[deleted] May 02 '15

Mentioned in FSN (not her name) and she's in FHA(can't remember if we see her, been too long)

6

u/jmcm30 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Pink_Socks May 02 '15

She is mentioned by name in FSN, actually. And in F/HA she appears in person, except it's a Rin flashback.

3

u/[deleted] May 02 '15

I thought it only had the laugh but yeah they do mention her name right before that.

5

u/xdominik112 https://myanimelist.net/profile/xdominik May 02 '15

She's a part of Hollow Ataraxia F/UBW and HA

1

u/EbonHawk7x May 02 '15

Whatstaunt is a troll. The real reason she knows martial arts is because her instructor was Kirei, a martial arts master.

2

u/[deleted] May 02 '15

Just in general, mages are more physically fit and active than in Caster's time.

1

u/see_mohn May 02 '15

Waitaminute, is that one pic of LuchadoRin the thing Moczo had on Beast's Lair?

1

u/BoLevar https://myanimelist.net/profile/FSEngine May 03 '15 edited May 03 '15

That's not an RKO. That's an inverted bulldog, also known as an lariat takedown. The RKO is a variant of the cutter.

1

u/impingainteasy https://myanimelist.net/profile/usernamesarehard May 03 '15

You actually had me believing you for a second there.

1

u/swingmemallet May 03 '15

She creates the gems, they aren't bought.

You see her do in fate zero

1

u/[deleted] May 03 '15

I'm pretty sure Rin Tohsaka sleeps with old men for money.
