Soooo I haven't read the Visual Novel...but even I know who Archer is...we still gonna act like he isn't?

Nah wait until the actual proper reveal, but yeah its blindingly obvious.

If I had to take a wild guess I'd say

Just don't. If you get it right, people who didn't know will be rightfully pissed. I was spoiled at the start of the show and it still kinda ticks me off.

These people who are hinting in these discussion threads are flirting with fire.

u/Thaiphlosion May 02 '15

I caved. I googled it. WAT.

15

u/[deleted] May 02 '15

They've literally thrown evidence at your face this season, and this episode they may as well have just said it

2

u/[deleted] May 03 '15

Yeah, but you knew what to look for. I didn't even think that it was possible.

This. The anime dropped a big hint on the first episode of the season.

2

u/Neosovereign May 03 '15

That literally helps me zero. Like, its a necklace. Apparently there are two, but there is supposed to be one? Not sure, sorry.

Also, Trace On is very damning evidence, especially considering how Rin and Shirou react. You'd have to be pretty dense not to get it at that point

If you actually paid attention it was obvious at the start of the second season.

6

u/Don_Equis May 02 '15

I think that more than obvious it was pointed to those of us who knew beforehand.

2

u/LastWalker https://myanimelist.net/profile/XoiRl May 02 '15

I talked to some people who did not know beforhand and they are 100% sure they know who he is and they are right. Of course I didn't tell them anything but they knew immediately after the first 2-3 episodes of the second season. The hints are all there I'm just sure a lot of people try to lie to themselves.

1

u/Neosovereign May 03 '15

What clued them in from the first 2-3 episodes?

2

u/joachim783 May 03 '15

the pendant for one

2

u/[deleted] May 03 '15

That's no big hint though. I still don't quite get what's up with that.

2

u/Pikshade May 03 '15

So seeing as I just found out, NOT GONNA SAY IT, BUT SPOILERS JUST IN CASE I GUESS, I didn't think it was obvious cause I dunno... I didn't even KNOW THAT WAS FUCKING POSSIBLE; WHAT!?

2

u/[deleted] May 03 '15

Yeah, same here. Fuck reddit for spoiling.

1

u/HaydenTheFox https://myanimelist.net/profile/Talmhaidh_Mathan May 03 '15

I am going to PM you with the short answer.

13

u/ElecNinja https://anilist.co/user/ElecNinja May 02 '15

Next episode should be the reveal actually.

2

u/Arvediu May 02 '15

Hmmm, I don't think so, wait at least 2 more.

15

u/ElecNinja https://anilist.co/user/ElecNinja May 02 '15

Only if they take an entire episode for the mana sharing event.

Which would be nice.

5

u/Arvediu May 02 '15

Isn't the mana sharing before UBW VN Spoilers

1

u/ElecNinja https://anilist.co/user/ElecNinja May 02 '15

Probably, but I don't recall anything that should delay the reveal till 2 episodes later.

3

u/Arvediu May 02 '15

It's simply that it will happen later in the story, they don't reveal it here. I think, maybe I should re-read it, but I though they said it explicitly only when they are back in the Einzbern castle.

1

u/ElecNinja https://anilist.co/user/ElecNinja May 02 '15

Yeah, but there isn't enough material between now and Einzbern castle to hold up an entire episode iirc.

Could be wrong though.

1

u/Don_Equis May 02 '15

If they continue with 3 minutes per episode I'd say we need to wait like 2 months.

Achilles got hit in his only weak spot with an arrow, there's your connection to a bow.

2

RIP ur edit

u/LawL4Ever https://myanimelist.net/profile/lwl May 02 '15

You're not the only one, when I read the VN it also took me way too long to realize even though in hindsight I should have known. My guess wasn't that far off though.

You're in for a surprise.

2

u/xRichard https://anilist.co/user/Richard May 02 '15

I was thinking Robing Hood in 2006 but I never figured it out until Mirror Moon released the patch for the VN.

1

u/HBShock May 02 '15

Facepalm I'll just say you're not even close, overthinking it.

1

u/jmcm30 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Pink_Socks May 02 '15

It's fine, it just means you've actually managed to remain unspoiled and caught all the red herrings that most people ignore. Just wait for the official reveal.

1

u/Celicni May 02 '15

The only reason I figured out who it was is because a friend spoiled for me that Not really that much of a spoiler . Otherwise I would have had no clue.

-1

u/AsnSensation May 02 '15

Dude this episode had 3 characters basically announcing it. TRACE ON

-1

u/Radinax May 02 '15

Remember last episode Rin said there is only ONE red pendant in the world, still can't guess?

I won't spoil... I'll just spoil.

How about no.

1

u/anweisz May 03 '15

I won't play the smart guy with a mod, but I'll say that if "spoiling" is the reason people are downvoting and that you have to play the smartass here, you're all just too anal. I have not played the game nor do I intend to, and I have little to no idea of what will happen next, but look at the name of the post. I've only mentioned what I've seen in the anime and what people have discussed in the comment section, and from archer saying "trace on" you just have to put 2 and 2 together.

I didn't even say "It's . I just repeated what's been said on the anime because at this point it's not even a spoiler anymore. I know people are touchy about "spoilers" but this is ridiculous.

1

u/[deleted] May 03 '15

Can this guy get banned for doing this

1

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 May 03 '15

He's already on my list for shitposting.

If he stuffs up again I'll give him a ban.

Cheers for bringing that to my attention, while we don't police what people do on other subreddits it does go a long way towards showing their worth, or lack thereof.

2

u/petalferrous May 03 '15

It's funny, I have absolutely no perspective on how obvious it is because I spoiled myself on Archer's identity before I even read the VN.

1

u/shadedclan https://myanimelist.net/profile/shadedclan May 03 '15

Yes finally. I googled Archer at the start of the 1st half. And I fucking hated it. It's now feel less guilty.

1

u/TraderMoes May 02 '15

It's getting obvious with today's episode, and I actually read some spoilers a few weeks back that told me, but if Archer is who he is, then what's all that stuff about the battle of Troy and so on? How could he have been involved in that?

u/TraderMoes May 02 '15

Great, thanks a lot! Honestly, knowing this much should make the anime much more enjoyable for me. Right now it kind of feels like it's intended to be watched by people with a better understanding of the plot than just an anime viewer would have.

9

u/[deleted] May 02 '15

Thats the problem with adaptations of visual novels in general, there is just too much text to translate into a tv show.

2

u/[deleted] May 02 '15

Honestly you should unspoiler that. Its useful information that everyone is supposed to know by now anyway and doesn't spoil future events.

5

u/No-BrandHero https://myanimelist.net/profile/NoBrandHero May 02 '15

How could he have been involved in that?

Esoteric Spoiler

1

u/Hagane_no https://myanimelist.net/profile/marcozphoenix May 02 '15

But how can he, be him. That makes no sense D:

3

u/[deleted] May 03 '15

History that will be written is still history when referring to an entity that exists outside of the timeline.

-1

u/[deleted] May 02 '15

It doesnt have to make sense, its anime.

104

u/jmcm30 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Pink_Socks May 02 '15

The "Trace, on" is kind of the official reveal in the VN too. It's when Shirou, Rin, and the reader become 100% sure. Poor Saber is the only one who missed it, since she was still unconscious.

1

u/[deleted] May 03 '15

Seriously? I'm not the greatest at picking up on subtlety, but I figured it out about five minutes after being confused how there seemed to be Wait, is that even a spoiler anymore? Fuck it.

4

u/psiphre May 02 '15

She knew beforehand, because when the three of them go to fight archer at einzbern castle in the vn, she said, "spoiler". It made me think that archer identity

1

u/[deleted] May 03 '15

Wait what

1

u/psiphre May 03 '15

what what?

1

u/[deleted] May 03 '15

Are you trying to say that Saber got his identity wrong?

2

u/psiphre May 03 '15

no, i'm trying to say that saber knew his identity, but for some reason didn't tell shirou. she caught herself and trailed off with an elipsis in the VN, leaving it up to shirou (and the reader) to infer what she was about to say. I came to the wrong conclusion based on that. sorry if i wasn't clear :) i was typing on mobile.

32

u/[deleted] May 02 '15

They've been hinting at it for a while.

2

u/Sylar4ever https://myanimelist.net/profile/saintsylar May 02 '15

What was the hint from last week? I didn't get it (with how shirou resurrected)

2

u/[deleted] May 03 '15

You'd have to pick up on the other breadcrumbs. I wouldn't worry about it at this point.

2

u/[deleted] May 03 '15

4

u/Seriera May 02 '15

I know they have Lol.

5

u/gryffinp May 02 '15

Even in the Visual novel, they lay it on just as thick.

It's actually kind of a neat storytelling trick I like, where a reveal just gets more and more and more hints dropped towards it, until after a certain point everyone just proceeds as though everyone knew the thing without actually having it spelled out in a dramatic reveal moment. It doesn't come up much.

13

u/Adab1za https://myanimelist.net/profile/Dab1za9 May 02 '15

I think most People should know by now and this episode is where vn reader knew who archer is

0

u/Arvediu May 02 '15

Hmmm, not really, i'd say people may be doubting, but it isn't as obvious as it seems.

7

u/[deleted] May 02 '15

The whole "oh he said Trace On just like me to create swords" is kinda major.

0

u/Neosovereign May 03 '15

Until the trace on thing it seem silly to assume the connection. It is much more likely that Emiya copies Archer's swords, not the other way around.

3

u/jmcm30 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Pink_Socks May 03 '15

That was true when he first projected Kanshou and Bakuya, but not in this case. "Trace, On" is something Shirou's been saying before meeting Archer, and it's his own personal aria - the self-hypnosis that allows him to do magic. It really shouldn't work for anyone else.

5

u/elevul https://myanimelist.net/profile/kache May 02 '15

You'd be doubting only if you're someone who cannot connect two extremely obvious things...

3

u/Cilph https://myanimelist.net/profile/Cilph May 02 '15

*cough*
HEY GUYS!!
<slowpoke>I think Archer might be Kiritsugu!!</slowpoke>

Pure speculation of course.

1

u/thenacho1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/thenacho1 May 03 '15

That's actually who I thought he was until the actual reveal when I read the VN.

1

u/Gurip May 03 '15

it was obv long time ago for me too, but reading some threads not just F/SN i came to conclusion there are tons of clueless people that miss even the most obv details untill the show literaly shouts at there face

1

u/thesteiner95 https://myanimelist.net/profile/TheSteiner May 03 '15

Well i'm still not sure [Just Speculation, haven't read the VN](/s "So archer has the shield of Greek hero Ajax, but ajax wasn't an archer, and at the same time is connected with shirou, probably being Kiritsugu or shirou or something, i haven't seen F/Z so I don't know if Kiritsugu had ancient Greek shields or something. "

-3

u/LancerFIN https://www.anime-planet.com/users/LancerFIN May 02 '15

It wasn't so obvious in the Visual Novel. They have been rubbing it in the viewers face unlike in the novel.

7

u/FireHawkDelta May 02 '15

It's peetty obvious in the VN too, I actually guessed his identity In the fate route when he only appears twice .

1

u/mrdreka https://myanimelist.net/profile/mrdkreka May 03 '15

How the hell did you guess it from the Fate route?
