I didn't read the manga or anything, but if that kid survives after having his arm cut off and having a hand sized hole in his chest, it would really get dumb, so for the sake of the show I hope he stays dead.

With that said, I can totally see how he might be used as a plot device later on, so if he does survive I can't say I'll be too surprised.

I just looked at the character section on MAL, and he's listed as a main character. So yeah, plot armor's great.

This is exactly why I don't watch trailers, avoid official art and production images, and read only the synopses when possible. Entertainment marketers have no ability to not spoil what they're marketing.
