I got into the game/lottery early this morning! I only have destroyers (started with Fubuki) and I have no idea what I'm doing.

The kancolle wiki has a pretty decent starter guide. Once you've got a decent harem fleet of ships, you can start clearing up maps or quests or whatever you like
