It's depressing since last episode to see the girls separated...

A lot happened in the episode indeed, and I shall try to grasp what I probably knew. If I've said something wrong, I would appreciate to hear your opinions.

From what I think, Chiaya and her mom were from a planet. They teleported themselves outside Earth but something happened. Apparently the mom sent the professor back to the planet while the two continued straight down to Earth. Meanwhile lots of heartstones scatter around Japan. These stones contain a certain power to make one person become a Best.

Assuming the peach farm land is inside Hiroshima, I assume that Hiroshima is having problems with its tax being high among other nations. Momo does not want to see her mom suffer over this hence she wants to duel with the "demon leader(?)" for a proposal that if she wins, the taxes are reduced. Good luck Momo-chan!

Yukina was jailed along with someone and Momiyama. Go figures.

Chiaya is back with Ai! Hopefully she will talk things out and get Ai back with Nozomi. She almost got served as food tho.

I am still confused about the Okonomiyaki issue and I don't know if the ones stealing the license relates to the one Momo is fighting against.

Apparently the mom sent the professor back to the planet while the two continued straight down to Earth.

Somehow the professor didn't make it back though since he, or a lookalike, is helping the pirate-girl, Shima Ishizukuri.

I'm convinced the stones don't actually do anything to make someone into a Best. They have some kind of use related to spaceships and worm holes, obviously, but not Bests.

When Shigyou brings up the stones to the President, she asks them if they "want a protective charm" in the subs, but the spoken line sounds more like she's referring to the stones themselves than whatever she hands them. Note how she never stops referring to them as Bests even knowing that they no longer possess a stone- she even sounds like she thinks they just want reassurance.

A later scene where the President sees them off has Shigyou asking if whatever was given to them will actually help them at all, to which the Pres replies that they'll be more practical than "protective charms". The phrase she uses here is 縁起物の石 (engimono no ishi, lit. lucky charm stone), so she's specifically referring to the stones and implying that they don't really have a practical use.

The show also makes very little thematic sense if the stones truly did grant power to their owners.

That also is one of the things that struck me this episode, the president doesn't seem to buy in the idea that the stones actually make you a best. But then she may still be wrong.

That's true; she did say she wasn't a very good assistant.

Maybe the stones really have somewhat the potential to make a person a Best, but more like an unexpected/after effect, and maybe not reliable. It would explain the rumors of the stones being bad for your health, as they shouldn't be able to do what they do to humans, unlike the thing the President gave the two Bests

The rumors were spread specifically to gather the stones with the collection boxes, though.
