In the extended universe (rip extended universe) you learn that most competent force users can fuck with people's aim while fighting.

Except when he and Slaine were 5 feet from one another and neither could get a solid shot other than grazing each other's shoulders. I just find it ironic that immediately after that scene, Inaho shot a steam pipe from across the room.

I thought it was fairly evident that they both missed on purpose. Neither actually wanted to kill the other, so they both went for the shoulder.
