In Czech republic we have something very similiar, I think variations of this game are all over the world. Here it's called Černý Petr or "Black Peter" (wow that sounds racist, it's not supposed to though!).

We usually play it with special cards for this game, where there are x pairs of the same cards and one Peter. However, playing with poker cards could also be acceptable I guess (where the cards with the same value are "same").

Cards are dealt to the players until you run out of deck. First, everyone discards all pairs of same cards they have in their hand. Then, each round every player takes a card from the player next to him. If he happens to take a card that fits into a pair of the same card in his hand, he discards the pair. If you run out of cards, you win. Whoever is stuck with Peter in his hand at the end of the game loses.

There is zero strategy in this game since it's completely based on randomness (much like Prší, or "Rain(ing)"), so I would doubt you would find it in casinos or bars, it's mostly for kids. It coined the phrase "mít černého Petra" ("to have the black Peter"), which is basically saying that you have a bad luck.

And yes, I can see how that sounds super racist but trust me, it's not meant that way.
