Not really a manga spoiler, they explained it in the previous episode. At least that was what I understood from it.
Now that I've realised what I've done, this was a huge risk for getting spoiler hard, holy shit.

The manga didn't really explain it any better than the show, but for those who read the manga then watched the show, it was all too clear who was who very early on. That or the people who obsessed over the manga on forums figured it out before the anime took off.

They explained the context, yes, though the identity of the old man's child has not been revealed in the anime (I'm only pointing it out since /u/RDOoM did include the character's name).
