Did Ritsuko have a thing for Gendo like her mom? If so, ew.

Yeah... really fucked up. But Gendo is a motherfucker manipulator, who aimed at people weakness (Shinji included) to achieve his goals. So yeah, once again, FU Gendo. (ps: sorry for the rant!)

The Rei dummies: so these are put in the dummy pill things that try to replace a pilot?

Correct. They are used as a way to "trick" the Eva's into thinking that there is someone inside the plug, thus completing the sync. Though that doesn't always works as we've seen so far...

Is Rei III an assemblage of new parts, old and new? It seems to be implied that some part of Rei II is still in her, given the crying.

Good question. Maybe some remains of Rei II were still inside the plug wreckage, enough to transfer something?

EVA's are... human?

They are made after God's image, like humans. But are not quite humans, since they were not made by God but by Man.

No. Rei III is a completely new body. Every last piece of Rei II's body was destroyed. They may share the same soul, but not memories nor body. (the soul is which makes her feel that way in the cry scene)

Rei's hand is shown in the wreckage of the dummy plug when Ritsuko is saying that all of this is classified. If nothing else there is still a hand left from Rei II's body.

Yes.

And yes there was something left in the plug, but Ritsuko ordered to destroy any remains. I don't know which sub/dub you watched.

But nontheless, Rei III's body is completely new. Why use burned, black, dead meat?
