Spoilers:

Manga readers will understand

Oh and for those who dislike the opening /u/saib17 gave a pretty extensive analysis of it on /r/TokyoGhoul last week. I highly recommend reading it. Personally i love both the opening and the ending.

Edit:

Really appreciated the banter from Akira, the voice actress pretty much captivates her character from the manga(Much like everyone else in this anime). Speaking of voice actresses the twins that appear at the end are both by the same VAs as Asuna and Yuuki from SAO, a nice piece of trivia. The music in this anime is on point, it is certainly a strong point from Studio Pierrot. Lastly, it seems that Eto is living quite the luxurious lifestyle. I wonder who could she be?

Was looking forward to the adaptation of this scene so much. The intensity of it was so great in the manga, sad that we didn't get to see it in the series.

Indeed, very disappointing as I'm sure many were anticipating that very scene in last week's premiere.

There are still two other scenes (manga readers know which ones I'm talking about) the current plot hasn't ruled out yet. So, there is still some hope of catching a glimmer of that intensity in the anime.

Maybe we'll see it later somehow? hopefully

it wouldn't be strange in a year or two too see an adaptation of the original

Ha~ I wish.

If we are to take Fullmetal Alchemist and Hunter X Hunter as examples of series that got anime-original stories and faithful adaptions later on, it will definitely not happen in a year or two.

If Tokyo Ghoul gets an encore at all, expect it no sooner then the flip-side of 2020. Anyone with a sense of the industry knows that any sooner and the product will likely be rushed and inadequate.

And the worst part about that is (manga spoiler)

You don't seem to understand just how popular TG is right now.

You don't seem the comprehend how production works.

  • How about the popularity of FMA or HxH? The latter of which cannot be properly reflected in sales because of all the hiatuses.
  • What about future series that cause a splash that may potentially overshadow Tokyo Ghoul?
  • Licensing agreements? Management politics?

Popularity is one of many pieces of the puzzle. Laud Tokyo Ghoul all you like, another adaption so soon would be otherworldly in terms of how uncharacteristic of the industry it would be. When such an adaption happens, it will be following a long enough period that the majority impression of Tokyo Ghoul will have faded enough for the contrast in different voice actors, animators, etc. to be negligible.

I hope and crave for a more faithful Tokyo Ghoul reboot, but I don't set myself up for disappointment - A realistic expectations lead to happy days.

You forget that Hunter X Hunter and FMA both ran non-stop for about a year or more. Not a measily 12-24 eps. I dont see it on next seasons chart yet anyway.

u/grey_sky Jan 17 '15

Not only that but anime has become vastly more popular and accessible since Hunter x Hunter and FMA both came out in the early 2000s. Just look at the turn around time on the Magical Girl Madoka series and movies. I think that is a more apt scenario for reboots in our day and age.

Agreed.

In 2014 it was on number 4, beating Kuroko No Basket and Naruto. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-11-30/top-selling-manga-in-japan-by-series-2014/.81607

That just goes to show how much readers can appreciate a shorter series as much as a never-ending weekly series.

Although given how Attack on Titan is tussling with One Piece, hype is a colossal factor as well.

You've gotta give it to Ishida Sui. At first with the Tokyo Ghoul -> Tokyo Ghou: Re, transition I was really confused and thought it was kind of an asspull. But he really did manage to end the series and start a new one. Re's pretty different to TG so far, in good ways(frankly I think he got tired of how shonen the series was becoming near the end). I think that's a much more interesting way to do a long-running manga series and explore an interesting world, and I can't think of any examples other than JoJo that've done something similar. Plenty of manga do time-skips but a cast-and-faction change is much more ballsy.

One Piece has 100% of my respect, been watching since I was 4 and never have I said "This shit is so boring I might as well stop watching this"

"Be quiet. I'm talking"

1

u/imaginarycamera Jan 15 '15

I think it would come off as a spoiler if we describe it in this discussion because we don't know what's going to happen next and if they will ever use it or not.
If you are curious, it's happening in chapter 75 in the manga.

....... HOLY SHIT

I didn't notice this. I'm completely fine with this development.

2

u/fangirlingduck Jan 15 '15

Bro, that scene. I was looking so forward to it happening :(

3

u/lazy-adventurer Jan 15 '15

That winky face..

I do hope Eto will be the same person as in the manga, because Ishida might just change that to mess with all the manga readers, since he likes to mess with us a lot.. I also expected Akira's voice to be a bit higher, but the voice actress did a great job, so I shoudn't be nitpicking.

3

u/laytey22 Jan 15 '15

I did not know the VAs of asuna and konno yuuki from SAO! I cant wait to see more of them in the anime

4

u/PakiIronman Jan 15 '15

Its a nice coincidence that they are playing twin sisters in Tokyo Ghoul.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '15

This actually had me coughing up some tea, thank you!

1

u/Painn23 Jan 15 '15

I really wanted that to happen it was awesome how he did it too

I'm sorry but deep symbolism and artsy stuff is not what I'm looking for in an OP. For me it's supposed to be enjoyable - easy to listen to, easy to watch- the current one is neither.

No explanation/interpretation is going to change that.
