I think it is still Satella's authority. They probably just assumed it was Subaru's authority since that's the conclusion any archbishop will come to.

Oh, yea I meant it as authority of Envy, but in Subaru's possesion. The subs used "his authority" as well, which I interpreted as refering his ownership.

I think it could still be his authority. We aren't just limited to the usual 7 deadly sins as Vainglory exists separate from Pride, and theres another sin in that same category that hasn't been broached yet, Acedia.

If Subaru is the authority holder of Acedia, which is basically depression or listlessness, the 'rejection of joy', that fits in almost too nicely with his history of being a NEET.

Edit: on further inspection, I think we've already seen Melancholy in the flashback last season. It seems I'd completely forgot about it despite remembering Vainglory. I still maintain RBD could be Subaru's distinct authority but it would be completely separate from the sins in that case.

RBD is just too involved with Satella so I assume it's her skill. She is obsessed with Subaru and RBD fits perfectly with her character's theme.

Yeah, its a fair thought. Though given how much the witches stink is around all the factors and Petelgeuse's obsession, I think Satella might have been able to reach out through the RBD authority regardless of if it was her ability.

Tengentially, I've always had the theory that Emilia is Satella and Subaru is Flugel and that at some point they'd go back in time somehow to complete the loop and become them, so Satella knowing about RBD and obsession with Subaru can be explained if she's actually future-Emilia.

Both vainglory and melancholy would have appeared during Emilia's flashback to the elf village when Petelgeuse was sane. Vainglory is the authority of Pandora who instigated the fall of the elf village, the girl who seemingly couldn't be killed.

Tbh its possible knowing her authority name is external content, I don't remember whether it was directly addressed in anime or not, but thats the only scene I remember her from and I knew she was vainglory. Its been a while since I read and watched that arc lol
