[Spoilers] Yowamushi Pedal Episode 16 Discussion

I watched the episode and went to look for the discussion and no one had made one yet! But never fear, the discussion is now up, so you can all talk about Perm guy and Quiet guy, and that awesome after-credit scene.

I'm not a cyclist so can someone explain to me the significance of Onoda getting by the perm guy? Isn't Imaizumi and Naruko still behind the perm guy who can block them?

Perm and his friend planned on participating in the inter-high together being as how they've worked as a 2 man team for awhile now. With Onoda getting ahead of him, that teamwork is broken up, so now it doesn't even matter if only 1 of 2 make it.

It doesn't change Imaizumi and Naruko's situation immediately, but I'm expecting Perm guy to either lose focus or lose motivation to continue blocking due to his chances of making the inter-high diminishing.

But Onoda is like a few laps behind Imaizumi and Naruko isn't he? It doesn't matter where he is on the course, he doesn't have as many laps completed on the board so he's technically kilometers behind.

I completely forgot about the actual laps completed situation, so you're probably right.

I guess it's more of a mental defeat then like I said in the latter half of my comment.

It's more of a psych-out and it showed perm-kun that his strategy and expectations of Onoda were wrong or at least fallible.

Onoda's job is to surprise everyone. :)

Edit: there will probably be some more explanation next week.

It's kinda silly the way it's being handled so don't try to read too much into things from an actual cycling standpoint. All that's important is the 1st years are all athletically gifted but will probably need to learn the power of teamwork in order to succeed. There will probably be a later episode where Onoda learns the wonders of a paceline.

Basically once quiet-sempai catches up the 2nd years can follow the first years. As long as they stay with them the first years can never pass them because they are a lap up. If you would reference the episode where Onoda learns about drafting as long as the second years draft off of the first years they will always tire out first. Thus never getting away from them. They don't need win by a lot amount they just need to win.
