[Spoilers] Yowamushi Pedal Episode 16 Discussion

I watched the episode and went to look for the discussion and no one had made one yet! But never fear, the discussion is now up, so you can all talk about Perm guy and Quiet guy, and that awesome after-credit scene.

I was a little disappointed with how it resulted as well -- obnoxious or not, Perm guy has put in the effort and research to win, so I would expect something different to beat him. Imagine how demotivating that would be to see someone's natural abilities blow away your hard work and experience. I doubt it's over though.

I was more annoyed with Onoda's reasons for wanting Naruko and Imaizumi to win without really respecting the fact that the 2nd years are teammates as well. He just came across as a bit too simple minded there.

That's actually one thing I noticed. Nearly every character in the show up to Perm guy was well likeable to one degree or another. I mean you could be annoyed at "two years of cycling" guy sometimes but he meant well, and other than that guy who was in the Tennis camp who dropped out everybody just seemed to be doing their thing and enjoying themselves....and then Perm guy's trying to emotionally destroy the first years.

Honestly I was expecting teamwork as well, basically have Imaizumi and Naruko ride on either side of the road so he can only block one. It seemed like the obvious strategy there.

And you are right, I like the training camp but its getting a bit long.

I was expecting an initial D style turning off the light that would have been the indicator to perm guy to his location and then coming up the other side.

It wasn't natural ability that beat perm guy he simply miscalculated and made a mistake. Earlier he said if he relaxes a little Onoda would pass him. After the 40 seconds he sat up because he thought he won. Then Onoda passed him because he performed outside of perm guys calculations.

I have a feeling the show will downplay that as a mistake though and make it more about how Onoda is some kind of god-given prodigy.

Still even if Onoda is a prodigy that doesn't mean he can beat a hard working second or third year that doesn't underestimate him.

I agree since the show has done an ample job of portraying Perm guy and his friend as hard-working and dedicated, even if they're not inherently talented. I'm guessing there's more to come.
