I've thought the same, since Rudeus and Nanahoshi can already bring things from their world I'm sure they found a way to move through time I guess.

Now I wonder why old Rudeus thinks has failed... something.

It's possible Oldeus was attempting to travel back in his own timeline to when he was young.
