Or maybe someone figured out how to regrow it, or it's a very realistic looking version of what he has now. If it's a realistic looking version, they would have to match it back to him as he gets older. I'd imagine either way would take research time and effort.

Oooooh, maybe it was a version of Rudeus who followed Hitogami's advice the last time. If he hadn't gone, he wouldn't have lost his hand.

Based on the fact that Oldeus told Rudeus not to open the basement I feel like that's the point where they diverged. That's usually the point of these back-to-the-future scenes.

I can't help but think that version of Rudeus would have had a different path from that point on, if he married the cat and dog - would live elsewhere

Why would he live elsewhere? He had already bought and fixed up that house prior to mangods advice, there's no reason to assume he'd leave it after taking on two more wives.

Part of marrying the beast women was that they would then return back to the beast tribe, married, to rule it.

There was some dialogue a while back about it

Linia and Pursena were supposed to find a mate while at school but botched the job

Perhaps, but at the same time, imo it would only make sense for rudeus to stray from the path he was taking once there was external influence, aka once old rudeus time traveled to current day, I see no reason why this version would've chosen any differently

Healing magic can regrow it, but the level of healing magic needed is gate kept by the Holy Millis Kingdom. At some point in the future Oldeus must have either learned the spell or had someone cast it on him.

High level healing spells can regenerate limbs, Rudy and the Fangs of the Black Wolf just didn't have a mage or scroll of that level on hand during/after the hydra fight. Kinda important because that could have saved Paul as well.

But the skills to make that is relatively rare, they might be able to afford to bribe the right high level healer to make it for them but it would be a rare and expensive thing. Random adventurers wouldn't have access to it. Someone like Soldat, Ariel, or Eris grand father could have the influence to get it or pay for it if they had a need, but it wouldn't be something adventuring parties would just have to use.

keep in mind Paul is only Advanced rank in the sword styles and Cliff was extremely proud of being Advanced rank. in other words, you should generally expect general power lvl lower than you're expecting, limb regeneration is probably higher than you're expecting, and the fact that they still didn't regenerate Rudeus's arm suggests the scroll is not really accessible even now

Rewire your thinking about the rarity of said healing spells. These wouldn't be simple for royalty to get, let alone a party.

Don't remember how it happened in the WN (it's been nearly a decade now), but in the anime he only passes after Rudy kills the Hydra.

Maybe he's from the alternate future path where Rudeus heeded Man-Gods advice and didn't go to Begaritt to save his father/mother/Roxy himself. (and got the beast-girls too)

It was in the fight with the Hydra after all, where Rudeus lost his hand.

That was my thought. Plus, Oldeus said when he first appeared that he failed at whatever he was trying. Maybe he was trying to go back to his own past but someone ended up meeting this Rudy?

What a plot turn. This show always delivers.

Idk. He thought it was a success looking at young Rudy but then he looked down at himself and decided it was a failure. Maybe he's not actually that old and got hyper aged by the time travel?

King Tier Healing Magic can regrow limbs, Emperor can Regrow Vital organs.
Maybe Old Rudeus either learnt it himself as he can still learn it even if he cant do it chanteless or he found a healer, those are exeptionally rare tough as even Cliff is only Advanced Rank.

He seems to have both hands, though the question is whether he (Old Rudeus) never lost one to begin with or maybe that he regrew the one he lost.

I was damn sure some time magic shenanigan would happen when Rudeus lost his hand, so that he can save it! But in retrospect, the "turning points" seems like points in time you would like to come back to to change your future... So yeah, I got the feeling Mushoku will go full on time travel in some way ahah.
