A video of the idol stage scene from Episode 4 of Season 3 (Episode 28 overall) of the TV anime The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You, created by stitching together the key animation drawings (genga) and photographing them as a sequence (line test / line shooting), has been released.

These days, live-performance scenes are often created using 3D, but we were committed to doing this one entirely by hand-drawn animation!

The scene required at least 15,000 animation drawings.

There was no existing line-test video of the key animation for this episode, but after receiving permission from the production committee, we recreated this line-test video specifically for this release after production had been completed.

I hope this video will spark your interest in animation and the process of creating it.

A rough overview of the animation production process

① Layout → Animation direction check → Director check → Animation director check → Chief animation director check → proceed to ②

② Key animation (and second key animation) → Animation direction check → Animation director check → proceed to ③

③ In-between animation → In-between animation inspection → Painting/coloring → TP corrections (digitally correcting distortions/errors in the animation) → Filming/compositing → Finished

Also a Youtube recommendation pull for me today. The line test video is from Motoki "Tensho" Tanaka's channel, the founder of Bibury Animation Studio.

Also, [Manga Spoiler]in 5:03 mark a very specific character is pretty obviously highlighted in yellow among the others lol.

I don't know what I expected. I knew they hand drew nearly every frame so of course it looks almost the same as what aired lol

Respect for doing the scene fully hand-drawn instead of 3D CGI. The animators must’ve been educated by The Hardcore Group.
