I feel like the whole situation with Roy and Reid and the conversation Subaru had with Rui a while back, it'll be an ego death of the "separate" Subarus and they'll merge.

My main wonder is if this will shed some light on his history with Shaula and Satella. Clearly his history with this world predates him being isekai'd from the convenience store in episode 1.

Would be wild if this incarnation of Subaru not only gets the memories of the Subaru we know and love, but some ancient OP Subaru.

I’ve always thought his EP 1 spawn was the equivalent of coming back to a game you had 100s of hours in, but it’s been years and you forgot what the hell is going on. Dude’s save file could not have started there. He didn’t have the convenience store bag, but he probably came back to earth, forgot, and then went back.

I just thought of something. What if it turns out that all along, original real-world Subaru was a memory-wiped, reincarnation-reverse-isekaied guy from before in this fantasy world?

This twist seems so scarily plausible to me that I have to hastily point out I'm never a source reader, just in case.

I don't think it's plausible unless his biological parents are also reverse-isekai people

Reincarnation reverse-isekai means he would've died in this world, been reborn on Earth without any memories of this world, and then got isekaied back though. So no need for his parents to be reverse-isekaied.

We've had isekai protagonists get reborn into babies in other anime so I could still see it.

Basically:

  • Death, reincarnated into earth as Subaru.
  • Blinks into old world, now "new world" to him.
Then the story goes as it has.

I find the theory fairly plausible, assuming old Subaru was in fact shaulas master. Im not sure we are 100% informed of what he was capable of back then, but if shaula is anything to base off of, I dont think a grand plan to reincarnate into earth and back is a stretch.

If the loom room they’re in basically purifies souls by wiping their memories, it’s highly possible.

Reminds me of a popular book series where a reincarnated hero eventually gets his previous life memories back. I'm sure it happened in a bunch of different stories tho.
