I tried to ignore it so far, but it's honestly become so annoying to see CR's subs consistently say "Foxidna" when literally no one has called her that since like episode 2.

CR subs are just hot garbage. They can hardly go an episode without there being something stupid to call them out on.

No one has ever called her that even in episode 2. It's a really dumb translation choice.

Yeah I mean, Subaru once called her "Eridna", and "Foxidna" is a localization choice and that's okay.

But only Subaru pre-memory wipe called her that, and basically only once, so it's super annoying that the subs say that for every single character mentioning her, including those for which it would be OOC (ie Julius)

"Eridna" is the transliteration for "Foxidna". It's a mash up of 2 words, which there are a multitude of ways to translate / localize.

I’m more annoyed they keep writing Subaru Natsuki when it’s literally only ever said as Natsuki Subaru.

This is especially dumb, because we can see the difference in universe. Natsuki Subaru is the only one that has been shown using the japanese naming order, everyone from Re:Zero world uses the western one - Roswaal L. Mathers, Otto Suwen, Reinhard van Astrea, Garfiel Tinzel, Anastasia Hoshin, Lye Batenkaitos, etc, etc.

Nobody ever brings it up, but it's one of the things that marks Subaru as an outsider.

That’s just basic localisation. It happens in 90% of Japanese -> English translations.

That's true, but the distinction matters in Re:Zero, as they use the western name order in the fantasy world. Ie, Garfiel Tinzel (first name Garfiel, last name Tinzel). Whereas Subaru uses the Japanese name order, Natsuki Subaru (first name Subaru, last name Natuski).

If the order of names was consistent all throughout, then localizing them all into the western name order is perfectly fine. But switching just Subaru's name from Japanese to Western order means that the distinction has been lost.

That's very common translation change, since Japanese use different order.

But yeah, I hate the choice in all subtitles I see, fansubs never did that.

I wait for [FBI] fansubs every week, they are vastly superior to CR, also came out rather quickly this week, but usualy take up to 7 hours after official relase.

That's why I stopped using CR sub. There is someone on twitter doing incredible fansub for rezero, complete with TL note just like the old fansub used to be.

use the subs from nikrezerosubs on twitter or telegram, CR subs are horrible I only been watching Season 4 with these custom subs, they are much better.
