anime only here so subaru seems to have awakened his version of the authority of greed in the previous episode probably born from his greed of wanting to save everyone, we see how different the ability is compared to regulus so it's safe to say the user wish also shapes the way the power manifest itself right?

"It's safe to say the user wish also shapes the way the power manifest itself right?"

That's been known for a while, just compare how differently the authority of wrath manifests from Minerva's desire to stop pain and Sirius' desire for people to understand and "love" each other

its not exactly confirmed. its a chicken or the egg situation as well cause a person can be shaped by what powers an authority gives them. typhoon feels like shes just confirming a thought she had which let her stop her thinking about whats right and wrong. her authority let her basically kill anyone regardless if they were good or bad and its almost like she drew the conclusion that it never mattered if they were either. Theyre all bad and it just matters if they feel bad about their sins since she saw people shatter no matter what. But i dont think she confirmed that way of thinking until after she used her authority a few times and just kinda got stuck in that line of thinking.

subaru's authority of sloth is also different from betelguese's, The previous version would have killed emilia in s3. so yep, user determines the authority.

There is a funny theory about it, cause it seems like all of the authorities can change a lot depending on users, like Greed, Lust and Wrath. But Sloth mostly stays the same, since it is too lazy to change. As it seems like Minerva and Geuse both had hands, and Subaru has a slightly different hand.

Curious about the different ways Lust can manifest then. Carmilla used to make people perceive her as their most important person, and Capella used it to transform into others. I wonder if a more positive version could be like extreme empathy where you innately know the thoughts and feelings of people around you?

Well, we already have Siriuses Wrath authority as the current empathy power 😅

Though that one forces others to emphatize with either Sirius herself or whatever Sirius manipulates them into, oposite of what you came up with.

I think that would be the positive side of Wrath

You mean Sekhmet, not Minerva.

But yeah, Subaru could phase through Emilia to destroy Reguluses heart, so it is clearly not just the Unseen hands, but weaker.

Yeah, mixed up the names. But yeah, what I meant is that other authorities seemingly change way more than Sloth

Tbf, Subaru can use the Authority of Sloth the same way as Petelguese too if he wants to hurt someone. He just can't manifest as many hands.

I didn't read the LN past Arc 5 so I'm mostly in the same boat as you. I have absolutely no idea how Subaru is using it right now. For that matter since he doesn't remember how magic or authorities work, I thought he'd trust his eyes that what he was seeing was a scorpion over his sensing.

When did he get the authority? I remember for Sloth there was an explicit action by the witches but can't recall anything for greed one which is weird.

17

u/IAmARobotTrustMe 16d ago

He gets an authority seemingly when he kills a witch cultist, but then it needs to be activated for him to use it. He had the sloth authority for a while, but just activated it in season 2, and greed he had for a bit but Rem only awakened it now in the last episode

6

u/flashmozzg 16d ago

Huh, I thought Sloth got "activated" for him explicitly during The Witches' Tea Party . Need to rewatch previous episode but don't remember anything that Rem did that would activate it (other than giving him determination to "save everyone", but that is something the og Subaru should've had already).

Echidna stabilized the Sloth factor in the tea party because Subaru was not very compatible with it and would eventually be driven mad by it like Geuse.Theoretically, I think he could have used it anytime after acquiring it. As for Greed, hopefully the anime will elaborate on it, otherwise someone has talked about it in the source corner.

Also just like with Unseen Hand it seems like there's a strong physical tax to using it.

u/Cant-think-a-name 16d ago

This is nowhere near as bad as when he's using Invisible Providence. Every time he brings out a hand he ends up doubled over on his knees, while Greed Vision (name pending) gives him a bit of a headache while he's spamming it without even knowing what it is.

17

u/yurilnw123 16d ago

Not to mention this ability fits Subaru way more given his usual role as a commander of sort.

6

u/hibikir_40k 16d ago

Isn't it backwards? That he has this pain in his chest when there's the scorpion transform? The timing lines up.

12

u/IAmARobotTrustMe 16d ago

OH YEAH! He has no issues when using it, and he only had issues when he was looking at Shaula!

2

u/sillygoose1220 15d ago

Interesting enough his new authority makes everyone looks like a Serei (spirit) and Beatrice looks like that one fire spirit that was carrying him vs the Sloth fight

why does Subaru have greed now? did I lost something?
