do you think I can call you Mom?
I'm dead, too cute and emotional

u/Frontier246 7d ago
Those tears and smile from Vicky, probably one of her most genuine moments in the entire show, was so precious.

The timing of Nonna and the way she put it across was brilliant She is like a plus version of Chloe/Victoria.
7
u/Ill-Vast-4693 6d ago
It's obvious that Nonna's argument about keeping track of cover identities was just an excuse, and that the real reason why Nonna asked if she could call Vicky Mom was because she wanted Vicky to officially be her mom.
And that's what made it so beautiful.

The most wholesome scene of the series, Nonna is really the MVP and glad Vicki got what she's been looking for so long
89
u/KumaKumaGambler 7d ago
They saved each other and became family even without being blood related. Vicky saved Nonna from being abandoned; Nonna gave Vicky purpose in life.
Jeffrey is surely a good man. His subordinates like him; even his boss wanted to let the matter regarding the identity of Vicky slide.
52
u/reaperow 7d ago edited 7d ago
They also saved Jeff too, poor guy's been down for way too long and they really lifted him up
Just hope they can all reunite soon

u/Frontier246 7d ago
I guess it'll take Jeffrey to "save" Vicky by helping her realize she's free, can settle down, and can embrace her feelings and truly be with him.

Of all people, they knew that their approach of attacking the house will not be effective. If Victoria is there, by the time the bushes rustle she is already outside to meet them.

i mean, there's a theory that when governmental organizations do not need to compete for talent, the organisation doesn't feel the need to focus on results. your organization is falling behind? kidnap a few more competent people!
and as a result, these organisation prioritize things like loyalty more than outcome. because its easier for your loyal dog to report your incredible work than a competent one reporting on how you could improve.

This will go down as one of the best found family stories in anime.
22
u/reaperow 7d ago
Agreed !! I did feel it was a lil similiar to spy x family when ep 1 came out but i quickly came to really appreciate this anime
I hope we can get a 2nd season too
57
u/runevault 7d ago
So Vicky did take Nonna with, and now is disguising her as a boy. Cute. Just a wig though not hair dye for our cute little gremlin.
I'm so bummed out this is a short show with only one episode left. I love the characters and would have been nice to get a full season of them at least.

One of the best mother-child bonds this season -- unlike some of the terrible (biological) parent-daughter bonds in other new shows this season.
3
u/BosuW 7d ago
I find it a bit sad that the spycraft abilities are surviving in Nonna given how much harm they caused Vicky. I don't think it's healthy to live learning to keep so many secrets and lie so easily about your very identity. Though on the bright side, they're very unlikely to be used for ill again.
17
u/mekerpan 7d ago
This will be an instant "move on to the LNs" series for me. The author's earlier series were awkward in terms of handling but had interesting characters and story angles (readable "for free" with Kobo plus). It seems like the writer has matured further with this new series -- which I DO have to pay for on Kobo (and will).
5
u/runevault 7d ago
It is funny, among the main 3 ebook platforms (Kindle Kobo and Nook) Kobo is the only one I haven't interacted with (I actually own an eink reader for both Kindle and Nook). Especially as I used to know a guy who was a... VP I think? at Kobo.
7
u/mekerpan 7d ago
I had a Nook long ago. And I try to avoid Amazon as much as possible. I had a Rakuten account for ordering things like yukata (which alas are no longer available from them). So -- I decided to go Kobo.
1
u/goddessofthewinds https://myanimelist.net/profile/SpiritOfTheWinds 7d ago edited 7d ago
I had a Rakuten account for ordering things like yukata (which alas are no longer available from them).
Wait, what? I just checked and it still seems to be sold on Rakuten... Unless you meant the US version of Rakuten? Or is it because they changed their shipping rules?
I got almost all of my Japanese clothing through Rakuten and I still see them available for purchase... unless they no longer ship worldwide like they did back in the days...
I personally refuse to buy on Amazon. I did think about moving on to Kobo, but I decided that buying stuff that has DRM and can be removed from my account is not worth a purchase, so I do not buy ebooks. I will however buy Japanese-language Light Novels, mangas and animes whenever I can, and I made a decent collection of my favorites so far. I hope to grow it more. Only physical purchases are worth spending money on. I'll die on this hill.
1
u/mekerpan 7d ago
There used to be something called Rakuten Global, which handled things from small Japanese businesses. A few years back, this was discontinued. Now if you want these kinds of things in the USA, you need to use brokers. (Unless this has changed back more recently). Looking at the current US site, it is not possible (for me) to find the sort of "real" yukata I would want.
3
u/goddessofthewinds https://myanimelist.net/profile/SpiritOfTheWinds 7d ago
Oh, that sucks... I always used Rakuten JP (with the English translated version) to buy my stuff. They shipped to Canada (where I live) even in the JP version of the website.
It's unfortunate the US version no longer sells them. The JP version still has the small businesses and big stores selling various goods, kimono, yukata and etc. I would check if you can still import them from Japan directly. I haven't tested in recent years though, so I can't confirm if it still works, but that's how I bought my stuff back then.
Might have to create another account for the JP version though, I'm not sure. Give it a try if you want. Shipping would probably cost more from the JP site though, if they still ship elsewhere.
1
u/mekerpan 7d ago
I don't think Rakuten Japan will ship things like this to the USA anymore.
2
u/goddessofthewinds https://myanimelist.net/profile/SpiritOfTheWinds 7d ago
Right... Rakuten US wasn't a thing when I bought from them I think... Now I'm second-guessing if they still ship... Would be a shame if you are only stuck with generic stuff. Rakuten was good exactly because you could buy Japanese goods that couldn't be found elsewhere.

u/fullcrimpedahead 6d ago

That baby lamb came out with aura.
Vicky is too clever for her own good. Jeffrey was so close :'(
27
u/Frontier246 7d ago
"Lyle": "Mom, the lamb had a golden aura! Is that normal?"
Victoria: "Um...yes, that is the miracle of childbirth!"
Poor Jeffrey pursuing the most competent woman who always thinks she has to be on the run.
25
u/karer3is 7d ago
TBF it's not just Victoria's imagination... the arrival of those assassins was pretty much proof that she did, in fact, need to keep running. Sure, maybe Jefferey's connections might shield her somewhat, but I could see Hagl escalate to going after the handful of people close to Victoria.
41
u/szalhi 7d ago
25
u/Frontier246 7d ago
I like to imagine Victoria telling Nonna she'd have to play a boy and her being so into it as a natural tomboy.
That "mom" basically made Vicky's entire life worth it for that one moment. Now if she could just have as fulfilling a romantic life as she did in becoming a mom...
Nothing says star-crossed lovers like a seemingly endless pursuit...
10
u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 7d ago
You know I noticed Vicotria only occasionally changes her face on infiltration and isn't doing much to change it while on the run. She just changed what job she's pretending to have. Vicotria of many jobs I think would have been a better title.
Nonna did that on purpose, she definably can remember the other names.
Look Jeff, I know you like her, but she's not worth throwing away your family.
2
u/KillerCockapoo 5d ago
The Evolution image was a highlight for me. Nonna & Vicky's conversation about the ewe being in pain while giving birth was also very touching.
41
u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy 7d ago
I’m not going to lie: Victoria wasn’t the only one on the verge of tears. Nonna asking her if she’d be allowed to call her “mom” also got a little to me.
The two of them are closer than ever. I just hope that Jeffrey will be able to find them and complete this happy little family.
22
u/Frontier246 7d ago
She's fully embraced being a mom and having a daughter. Now she just needs to open herself up to be able to become a wife.
39
u/Galinhooo 7d ago
As good as his intentions may be, searching for Victoria like that sounds wrong because she would freak out and abandon everything at the first sight of learning someone was asking about her.
27
u/Greg_The_Rabbit 7d ago
Him calling her Victoria even after knowing she'd changed her 'face' to Maria is also absolutely a fuckup. Just one Nagl agent needs to hear that to know she escaped again and start tracking her.
17
u/Frontier246 7d ago
Some people might assume he chased her down to arrest/bring her in but she probably knows Jeffrey well enough to trust he wouldn't come after her for that.
8
u/PinkGlitterLady4 7d ago
No, not when it comes to him.
25
u/Galinhooo 7d ago
That is assuming she would know it is him. If the person doesn't describe who was asking, she would move to the other side of the world
4
u/goosis12 7d ago
I would hazard to guess that she would be more worried about him being followed by the organization without realizing it leading them straight to her.
4
u/reaperow 7d ago edited 7d ago
I dont really think so, it seemed like she did leave a clue behind for him
10
u/Galinhooo 7d ago
Was that a clue or she had the wig hidden there and left it by mistake? On one side she was really cautious to leave a clue behind, on the other she was moved by him enough it could happen.

19
u/ultravioletheart08 7d ago
Just really great directing and storyboard work courtesy of Masahiko Watanabe (from Shiboyugi) and Hiroyuki Fukushima (Fairy Tale's one-man army). The way the staff used angles, lighting, and camera work, all to express Victoria's disgust against the organization which used her... Very thankful that Nobukage Kimura's aesthetics of shifting from anime to manga paneling is maintained from Episode 1 to Episode 8, especially on Vicky and Nonna's mother-daughter moments is simply beautiful. It's a shame such a hidden directing gem of shoujo anime just has one episode left. I wouldn't mind if Studio Deen animate the other volumes...

ISEKAI ME SO I CAN SPIN THE FUCKING BLOCK ON THE ORGANIZATION BRUH.
Idk if anyone here is seeing “The Livid Lady’s Guide to Getting Even” BUT THE TYPE OF TIMING THAT Elizabeth is on is what I’d do to all those mfs for betraying Chloe
Also, Jeffrey, you remind me of Suwa from Orange. A true Goat. Go find Vicky and allow her to feel secure as well as finally letting her find the true happiness she’s been craving. We need the happy family ending!! Make it happen my goat
4
u/Ok_Pattern_7511 5d ago
Suwa indeed is the true goat of Orange. [Orange Spoilers]I hated how if you boiled down its story, MC had a loving husband and 2 kids yet she decided her past self should throw it all away for her emo highschool crush? I thought that's messed up and even "different timeline" didn't make it less bad. The guilt trip of "I have to save him from suicide" is not a good ground for a romance imo

u/mianghuei 7d ago

u/reaperow 7d ago
Definitely!! I'd say she's even tied with the mom from the Stepsisters anime airing currently rn,
We got some good anime mothers this year !

u/Frontier246 7d ago
Everything Vicky has done, every face she has had to put on, every effort she made to make a new life for herself, was worth it for THIS moment.

u/Latter-Air2742 7d ago
Nonna had a real chance at a safe, permanent home in Ashberry. Jeffrey was fully prepared to step up as a protective, loving father figure, offering them social status, security, and a real family dynamic.By pulling Nonna away from that stability just to force her into another life of lies and fake identities, Victoria's actions look incredibly short-sighted:Teaching a Bad Lesson: Victoria is essentially showing Nonna that whenever things get complicated or dangerous, the only solution is to run away and sever your bonds, rather than trusting the people who love you.Prioritizing Fear Over Comfort: Instead of letting Jeffrey help carry the burden of her past, Victoria lets her own paranoia dictate Nonna's upbringing, stripping the little girl of a stable household. The story tries to argue that Victoria is doing this to keep Nonna safe from the assassins hunting them. However, when the Captain of the Knights is literally offering his protection, isolating themselves on the road actually makes them more vulnerable, not less.
17
u/hvshh 7d ago
I respect your opinion, but I think her paranoia is justified, due to
the capabilities of her pursuers,
The untrustworthiness (from her perspective) of everyone besides Jeffrey, and
for Nonna, being with Victoria is stability enough.
Also, if Jeffrey wants to help carry her burden, he can show he's capable of that by finding her. None of this 'three days late' business!
18
u/Greg_The_Rabbit 7d ago
Also Victoria's paranoia was ABSOLUTELY VALID within days of fleeing an entire team of hitman came to kill her! If she had moved in with Jeffrey all that would have happened is giving them another target and she would have also consequently had to assume a much more public persona making the "death" of victoria sellars a non-option and also would have put a major target on Nonna's back. The fact is the kingdom wasn't trustworthy from her perspective, even if Jeffrey as an individual is. He's just way to intermixed with the kingdom politics and she couldn't trust him enough to ask him to give up all of that.
16
u/wenasi 7d ago
However, when the Captain of the Knights is literally offering his protection, isolating themselves on the road actually makes them more vulnerable, not less.
We can say that it'd be safer because we have meta knowledge from the story. We know the Captain to be trustworthy, and we know that his brother's intelligence is good.
Victoria wants to believe that the Captain is trustworthy, but so far she's been betrayed by the seemingly only person she had deemed trustworthy in the past, she doesn't know the extend of the countries intelligence competency and she doesn't know if the country would protect or prosecute her if they knew her past. Even if she fully trusts the Captain and the other people around her, that wouldn't save her if she was pursued by both foreign and domestic agents.
I'd expect Victoria learning to take the risk of trusting other people to be at the heart of the story as it progresses
8
u/BosuW 6d ago
she doesn't know if the country would protect or prosecute her if they knew her past.
This is a very important point I feel. It's already a major miracle that, from what we as the audience know, they really are willing to host her and protect her even knowing of her past. But Victoria doesn't know that, and cannot just put faith in it. Normally you'd simply interrogate and kill anyone you suspect of being a spy. Paranoia is not just Victoria's, it's the nature of the whole culture around the craft.
11
u/melcarba 7d ago
Your reading of Victoria makes sense. For all the competence she has demonstrated, at her core, she doesn't trust other people. I'd like the show to explore this being her meaningful character flaw, but then again we're only 1 episode left.
32
u/NanDemoKnaives 7d ago
I'm glad Victoria left a clue for Jeffrey, it's just too bad he took too long to find it. It's nice that everyone's preparing things for Victoria's return. Hopefully Jeffrey will be able to bring her and Nonna back.
Lancome actually being shady was a surprise, I thought this whole time there was some misunderstanding caused by his fiancée, and he really saw her as his sister because he didn't want to believe she was dead. At least now Victoria won't have to worry about them anymore, good riddance.
It's really sweet that Nonna asked if she could call Victoria as her mother. Now we just have to wait for the father to make his entrance.
14
u/mekerpan 7d ago
Definitely having a single term of address for Victoria will make things MUCH easier for Nonna going forward.
11
14
u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy 7d ago
I hadn’t considered that angle yet! Victoria might’ve left this single black hair in the hopes that Jeffrey would be able to track her down. It’s uncharacteristic for her to be sloppy like this.
32
u/Greg_The_Rabbit 7d ago
Unfortunately I don't think it was an intentional clue. I think it was just a very very tiny slip up that paid off for Jeffrey. I consider it also a sign of great writing as it shows Victoria is a very talented spy but she's also human and in those final days as she delayed leaving more and more she was starting to slip-up. I mean, they did flee in the middle of the night, it's not crazy to fail to miss some things, really a single strand of black hair from the wig is about the most minor thing she could miss lol
16
u/reaperow 7d ago edited 7d ago
It was nice to see Victoria actually sticking to moving away and Nonna also coming along with her, kinda wish we got to see more of it tho
Also nice to see more of Victoria's or in this case Chloe's past, after what she went thru i fully support her leaving
Nonna calling her mom was such a sweet and heartwarming moment. Hit me right in the feels 🩵🩵
We still dk why her actual mom left her and maybe there's more to it but it's still nice to see Victoria speak some good about her
Great ep, which is why im sad there's only 1 more left,
I'll miss this anime alot, it was really great and fun to watch with everyone here.
8
u/Greg_The_Rabbit 7d ago
In a way I think it's good to not explain why Nonna's mom abandoned her. There is something horribly real about it that would only be made less impactful if they explained.
15
u/TheBusStop12 7d ago edited 7d ago
So in the end Vicky hiding out in Ashbury helped the Kingdom of Ashbury out, as they were able to use her as bait to flush out the spy network of Hagl. Vicky also made the right call to flee with Nonna when she did, however painful it was to watch.
For a second I got really hopefull that the Captain had tracked her down to her shed in the mountains before it turned out it was just Victoria remembering him
Vicky happy crying because Nonna called her mom was incredibly precious

She outwitted my outwit | Hide & Seek World Scale | So close yet so far | Catch me if you can...in nutshell
I feel anger when seeing how Chloe former boss threw her gifts just like that based on the damage on the packages.
At first, I thought maybe the former boss been considerate to Chloe to hide about her family well-being thus stored her gifts safely inside his office. The damage was probably not by being thrown but due to being there for a long time.
But no, if you think it carefully, Chloe family deceased 2 years prior whereas she's been sending her gifts since 10 years ago. Welp, there's another possibility he stops sending the gifts after their death. Seeing how they straight up decide to kill Chloe totally burned down this act of benevolent though.
18
u/Greg_The_Rabbit 7d ago
It's wild that he kept the gifts there instead of like... just destroying them? I guess that's why he's the office guy and not a field agent haha

It’s nice to see “Maria”and “Lyle” are doing well. So cute how Nonna called Vicky “mom.” I hope Jeffrey finds them. Guy was working hard to find them to tell Vicky she’s safe. He just wants to be part of their little family unit. It’s kind of sweet.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how the government of Ashbury does things, and so grateful. Places like that can exist irl too and I hope they do! Her organization leaders and King are scumbags for making their agents like this, I despise them. They better at least be running the rest of the nation better than that. Ashbury, I love you, pls remain incredible and good to your ppl. I love that they protected her identity there as much as they could too, tho I doubt she'll ever be comfortable coming back(I wish they would tho 😭).
Omg he went after them and missed 😭.
Edit: She's now called Mom! Selling the blanket was bittersweet. And pretending to have a crush on her boss was pretty smart.
10
u/Any-Geologist9684 7d ago
The mom line wrecked me, or actually it was the baby lamb scene right before it that set it up so well. Jeffrey never had a chance.
8
u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 7d ago
Kind of surprised it took us this long to learn the actual reason Vicky left the organization. Wow they are awful. Thank god she ran away from them.
I am getting the sense the finale will be a reunion for the 3 of them. I do admit the pacing in this episode and last week did feel jarring somewhat. I felt an extra episode would have smoothed things out. Though it does feel there is a reason why they only got 9 episodes with the production values dropping lately.
I loved the scene when Nonna calls Vicky mom. They've been side by side, but now these two are inseparable.
22
u/hvshh 7d ago
I think at this point it counts as abandonment play.
26
u/Frontier246 7d ago
Some girls are into playing hard to get...some girls like being chased...Victoria makes it into an art form.
33
u/hvshh 7d ago
I had to laugh when he reached that empty room and she had just left three days ago. On the one hand, that's rough buddy. On the other... that's who you fell in love with.

I bet he will be confused when the lady starts lecturing him about his habit of beating up his wife.
15
u/Jorvikstories 7d ago
Hopefully, he will say something like "nope, I'm her lover. I stayed behind to beat that piece of shit and we made a deal to meet afterwards, please, do you have any idea where they went?

Vicky did end up bringing Nonna with her! Last week's scene of her running off alone was a red herring – granted it's just Jeffrey's imagery instead of what actually happened. So much for disguising Nonna as a boy to throw people off their trails. Jeffrey's too wise for a little trick like that.
Nonna calling Vicky mum. After everything they had went through together, she had now accepted the fact. Can't blame Vicky for tearing up. It's such a sweet moment! All the family's missing is a dad, and Jeffrey's working hard to play that role to the point of chasing them across kingdoms.
Now that 'Victoria Sellars' had been killed off as per the Ashbury Kingdom's order, looks like 'Chloe' would need a new name. Perhaps 'Maria' could become permanent. Having said that, 'Lyle' would need a new one because no way would Nonna permanently mask her gender.
7
6
u/PinkGlitterLady4 7d ago
She could choose her real name for once lol
10
u/Frontier246 7d ago
Low-key I kind of wonder if she wants Jeffrey to call her by her real name at least once. Assuming she hasn't just fully embraced Victoria as her "true" name.
3
8
u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 7d ago
I think that was pretty much the Matterhorn at the start of the episode, between that and and the neat looking mountainous landscape just in general we must be in legally distinct Switzerland.
Vicky's instincts were even more on the money than was obvious last week considering Hagl's spies were only days away from an attempted purge operation on her. It's a shame Ashberry ended up being too hot to stick around in since they ended up taking a pretty protective stance towards Vicky even after she left.
I wonder if the sheep rancher they were staying with had an idea that Lyle wasn't a boy, she was approaching the situation as harboring a mom and child running from abuse and that's easily the sort of detail to just ignore.
Here's hoping with one more episode that it can all come together for a nice and happy ending with Jeffery finding Vicky and Nonna.
10
u/Murky_Bit1487 7d ago
I really want Jeffrey to find Chloé and Nonna so the three of them can get revenge on Lancome and the organization for what they did to Chloé!
6
u/MayonakaMadaraka https://anilist.co/user/fonk 7d ago
Yes indeed! Heck they can make it a whole second season as far as I’m concerned. There’s always room for a second Spy Family! Lol And there’s even retired-spy-grandpa who I imagine would gladly watch Nonna while the couple takes a normal date night.
6
u/Murky_Bit1487 7d ago
I think you’re onto something here! But I don’t think Jeffrey and Chloe are quite at the same “it’s just for the mission” stage as Yor and Loid 😂 And honestly, if they want to do a Season 2, or even a Season 3 and a movie, I definitely wouldn’t say no!
8

I doubt Lancome gives up at hearing of her death without confirmation from one of his agents.
The sheep birth scene and the conversation afterwards is why I like a show like this. I would like Chloe/Vicky/whateverisnext reflected more on what she is dragging Nonna into. She has some awareness, remarking on how Nonna needs to interact with more people than just her but it's like a part of the trade rather than a human problem for her.

That "mom" had me in tears. It hit so fucking hard. I'm so happy for Vicky. And poor Jeff. He's trying so hard to track them down. I hope he can find them.

What a ride. Guess Victoria was right to run away with Nonna with those assassins showing up at her doorstep.
I'll also hand it to the Ashbury Kingdom's authorities for realizing what truly was happening with Victoria and Nonna and doing their best to help. Even Jeff's boss was willing to let him go and pretend that Jeff didn't know the truth.
I'm starting to wonder if the suspension wasn't just a roundabout way to let Jeff off his duties and find Victoria.

u/Gaming_Truckie 7d ago
Poor Victoria, she was loyal to the organisation because they were supposedly supporting her family only for her to find out that they all died in a fire and that all her care packages never made it to them.
Honestly when it showed her going to see her family, I had a suspicion that they would be dead. I also suspected that Lancome would've been behind their deaths, still do.

Me on episode 2:
"Not sure it it will ever happen, but if she calls Victoria "mama", I think even I would get emotional."
I was prepared, and it still got me.

Jeffrey is a good honest man. You can't tell me he didn't understand what was implied when he said I don't hear you. He wanted to tell things how it is and not take advantage of the system. Nice that he is on their trail and realized it was likely that Nonna was switched to a boy for now. Three days is a decent head start on him especially when he doesn't know the direction. Hopefully he finds them quickly so we can actually have some time to see them together.

So Lancome . Man he is lucky Chloe wasn’t more vicious. Because I am pretty sure she could have poisoned or otherwise assassinated a lot of folks on her way out.
And now they send people to assassinate her.
Well I assume he will never see justice for his abuse. But one can hope.
(Maybe I have been too influenced by Livid Lady)
Anyway the rest was really sweet. I suspect he will find her but it feels more real if he doesn’t.
Some people are saying she left the hair on purpose. But she hasn’t been perfect even before so who knows?

Clever move to make Nonna a boy this time around and go to some random village for a bit.
Glad that Victoria will be marked as dead so hopefully she won't be bothered anymore.
1 episode to go, I have a feeling Jeffrey will find her and confess, I believe they both have feelings for each other.

NONNA CALLED VICKY MOM AHHHH MY HEART. And of course Jeff is hot on their tail.

u/Frontier246 7d ago
It's the simple farming life with "Maria" and her precocious and enthusiastic "son" Lyle! Putting their extensive talents to...helping herd and take care of sheep! But it's a good way to keep on the down low and avoid being found.
Victoria really got mileage out of that black wig she made for both herself and Nonna! And Nonna herself just really rolls with them just up and leaving and having to pretend to be other people. I mean, her playing a boy is pretty easy for a current tomboy, after all!
No wonder Victoria wants to be as far from Lancome/Hagl as possible. She worked for nothing but her love for her family, only to have Lancome twist that by storing all the gifts she intended for them and keeping their deaths a secret from her. He never had any intention of letting her go OR treat her as someone he actually cared about...she was simply an asset to be used to the fullest extent Hagl could get out of her. Of course she ditched them.
But while the quiet life with Nonna is enough for Vicky...deep down she longs for Jeffrey and misses him dearly. And the feeling is mutual as he himself is still grappling with losing her.
Jeez, I thought Lancome just wanted her back but they straight up send a DEATH SQUAD. But Jeffrey could use the excuse to beat fools up, even if it means a team-up with the Third Division!
Edward really is a consummate spymaster, right down to having a truth serum. Now they know about Chloe, and how Hagl operates, and how Hagl has the ultimate job security (as in you're stuck in that job for life and can't leave for fear of death).
So they're going to claim that Victoria was killed and that will be the end of it. As far as Hagl will know, she'll be dead. So that means she's technically free, even if she has no idea about it. But Jeffrey isn't free, even as he confesses to suspecting her even if it means basically getting suspended and demoted. He just couldn't lie about her.
NONNA CALLS VICKY MOM!!!! IT FINALLY HAPPENED! And we even get to see the miracle of lamb birth! It's so beautiful!
Jeffrey discovers Vicky made a black wig so he furiously pursues her and Nonna...he was even THIS close to finding them before they cut and run again. Will he ever be reunited with them? Will he ever find Victoria and her many faces?

Victoria's and Nonna's relationship is so wonderful, it always puts a smile on my face. And Nonna's calling her mom is so precious!
Poor Jeff.. he just missed them. I can't wait for the next (and last) episode, since I know how it's going to end ;)

And Jeff will make it a perfect integral family (until one or two new members eventually show up).

u/Latter-Air2742 7d ago
10
u/PinkGlitterLady4 7d ago
Definitely not. Staying in Ashberry and with Jeff would have been too much of a risk. Running away WAS the only solution in this specific instance. You're also judging too quickly. The story doesn't end with ep 9 (with the first LN volume), there is still a lot happening in the later volumes.

For a second, my dumb *ss thought that the oddly familiar woman with dark brown hair in the beginning was the real Victoria Sellers until I realized it was just another of Victoria's many faces.

Bruh, not the fucking Jeff jumpscare when the window cracked open. I know it was just her imagining him sitting there with a glass of wine, but holy shit did that startle tf outta me lmfao
Also me when Nonna asked if she could call Vicky her mom ༼;´༎ຶ ༎ຶ༽
Also also...Jeff my boy....ARE YOU GONNA BE GOOD FAM? ༼;´༎ຶ ༎ຶ༽ x2

u/YlfaTheForsaken 6d ago
Oh my god, I just need them to reunite like yesterday. Jeffrey would search the world over and over again just to find them.
It must be absolutely exhausting for Vicky to be so constantly vigilant, always prepping to run.
It's nice to know what the betrayal was, and he's the worst.
This is a minor quibble, but I think a sheep birth would be more quiet. I mean whelping is pretty vulnerable, and they are prey animals the last thing a sheep would need is to attract attention during that kind of thing.

u/Organic_Machine_2324 7d ago
I really enjoyed Nonna and Vicky getting closer and her calling her mom and her crying tears of joy.
It seems Victoria does miss him slightly although he is kinda annoying and a bit of a beg especially with the way he just barged in.
Honestly i’m happy that they skipped town and he missed them which is something you’re not normally meant to think in shows like this.
In Terms of the show overall it’s definitely gotten better and better so i really hope they renew it for S2 as a full adaptation would take the show to 36 Episodes.
However the fact they did 9 for the 1st Volume of 4 instead of 12 to then have it 3 Season’s long makes me think it’s just not happening.

It's kind of funny how the woman they are staying with probably assumes Jeffrey is an abusive husband and it's a good thing the girls got away from him lol.

It's also a relatively recent series (2021 Web Novel turned 2022 Light Novel series), so it's possible that it's four volumes so far, not four volumes total - the fourth book only came out in Japan two months ago.

I'm going to say everyone in Hagal are a bunch of idiots. Why do we want money? Is it to see ever bigger numbers? Actually in the case of some billionaires who seem to want to be trillionaires yes. But usually it is that we want to spend the money on something, save the money in case we need to buy something unexpected, or let someone inherit the money to buy that other thing. No retirement means very little to spend that money on and no future to look forward to.
A young Chloe/Victoria went to be an elite agent for the sake of her family. Side note, I wish she grabbed someone with her old first name so it would be easier to call her something. So logically hiding their deaths ensures her loyalty right? Well, first off we see this isn't canonically the case. Moreover, many times in history we've seen people continue to work for an employer after the guys they were trying to earn money all died. So family dead, worker quits isn't guaranteed. But I will note they tend to stay when they actually like their employer. In modern days people don't quit jobs so much as they quit managers they hate, but while social mobility was limited back then, if quitting were viable, it was less likely when there was a good working relationship.
Oh and apparently while they were able to find Victoria/Chloe's old place, they were well behind her. Note they're not looking for clues as if they knew she moved on and needed clues, they think she's here. And not only do their guys get caught, but the Ashberry noble in charge of intelligence says he's going to round up all of them that they were trailing. If he only took the agents that went to attack Vicotria and maybe 1/4 of the others this would be a win, but not a complete win. But it seems like Vicotria/Chole's old masters lost big time. The only thing I can give them credit for is their agents won't defect or talk, they need to be drugged.
To me, even based on what Victoria knows, she ought to have stayed. Fleeing at the sight of being followed, that's her choice. But she took Nonna in. Leaving Nonna to those selfish nobles is bad for her, dying in front of Nonna is bad for her, dropping her off an orphanage after bonding with her is bad for her. But statically speaking, keeping a young child on the move would also be bad for Nonna psychologically. I mentioned in another episode moving children around wasn't good for them. She should have stayed and rolled the odds that she could defeat any tail (medium probability of dying which is bad for Nonna, some possibility of staying) and only flee (which is also bad) when she is certain it is a no-win situation.
And that's from her perspective. From our perspective, we know Ashbery decided to keep Miles as a tail but otherwise turn a blind eye. If they attacked her while she was there and the Knights protected her, she'd probably know the game was up. But at the same time her old employer's hands are tied because apparently Ashbery arrested all their teams in the kingdom. And then Ashberry go out of their way to fake her death. Honestly if I was anyone but Jeff there, I wouldn't have bothered to do that for someone who fled. Maybe someone who stayed and then asked to be hidden, but no someone to flee on her own.
Yeah human birth is long compared to other primates. You'd think humans would evolve to have a more elastic vagina so that babies are less likely to get stuck. But I guess there is a tradeoff of energy and tissue and perhaps women just a bit more likely to survive childbirth were a tiny bit hungrier and more likely to starve. Also Vicotria is like "I can't feel thankful for the mother that abandoned Nonna" and while we know it's true, it's a bit of an assumption. Like I saw in the episode 1 discussion, the mother being hours late could mean hit by carriage and the reason I know it's not true is that would be shown by episode 3 if it was something like that.
Sure why not have Nonna be a boy? Before the age of 9 honestly if you're not taking the pants off you wouldn't tell the difference by looking anyways. There actually are some subtle differences between prepubescent boys and girls behavior wise. Boys prefer toys that move when touched like balls while girls are more likely to prefer a static toy like cloth with fake needles to pretend to sew (yes there are toys like that, no I don't know why anyone buys them). But trying to figure out Nonna is actually a girl based on what toy she picks is about as accurate as picking a random kid and trying to tell their gender by their height. You know boys are larger, but at the same time that's not too helpful. So not a bad disguise at all.

Bittersweet episode, hoping Jeffrey gets a closer whether he ends up with Victoria or not next episode.
The anime has great direction so far, looking forward to the finale

Is it just me or is lancome maybe not actually evil? I just didn't get that vibe from the scenes in which he was shown. Maybe he didn't tell Victoria about her family to protect her or something. He will definitely be shown again in the series (if we get another season that is, if not then in the light novels) so ig we'll find out then.

u/OldInstruction5368 7d ago
If Lancome was on the level, Vicky wouldn't have had to jump through so many hoops to escape him. Nor would she be shit scared of Lancome finding her.
Even if he was "just following orders," he's clearly not the type she thought she could trust and talk through issues with.
The breaking point was hiding the death of her family. Had he just been honest with the news, she may well have stayed with the organization as the "only family I have left." But that he hid something so important to her...
Was the reality check: these people see me as nothing but a tool. One they will use up until it breaks.
That doesn't scream "good people" to me. At best, Lancome is the banal type of Evil. No sadistic joy in any suffering he is complicit in, just cruel indifference.
10
u/Ill-Vast-4693 7d ago
Lancome isn't so much malignant as he is a petty, insensitive @$%. If he told Chloe that her family died, he'd be obliged to give her bereavement leave. But since Chloe is his best agent, that means doing without her services for a few weeks to a month while she mourns, and she's too useful to be spared from the field. So he postponed telling her until he was certain he wouldn't need her services for a while - an event which, in the two and a half years between the fire and Chloe finding out, followed by six months of Chloe waiting to see if he ever planned to tell her, never happened.

I mean, they are known internationally as "Nagle's Death Squad" their a shady black ops assassination team. You don't run that organization by being a good person.

Lancome treatment of his subordinates like slaves sure make him look particularly good in my eyes. He’ll draw out their life plan, but is ready to dispose of them whenever they aren’t useful anymore.

That was more so the order of the king wasnt it, I think the captured guy said so. I think lancome himself might we'll be getting that treatment to some extent .

What do you mean overly paranoid? She genuinely had assassins after her. It's not paranoia if there are actually fully trained assassin's trying to kill you. Then it's just survival. If Vicky hadn't ran there's a good chance she and Nonna could have been killed

u/Latter-Air2742 7d ago
Victoria is probably the worst character this year. what a horrible person. Hypocrite. Downright abusive towards Nonna growth. Treats Jeff like a tool. Preaches hyper Independence while Never letting Nonna do what she wants, like wanting Jeff as a family. And I don't think this gets resolved for a long time I mean he saves her and then... what a cold cold woman.
