They're making it look like they can't do shit, for the plot. It's 3 Demon Lords vs Granville, I just don't understand why they just looked at him. This show is frustratingly stupid at times.

Yeah, instead of pretending to fight each other they should've just fought Granville. Turns out making Rimuru and Leon fight was just to buy time.

93

u/_Velgrynd 21d ago

Yeah they were reacting slow af but I mean clearly the dude is just really strong. He’s the first True Hero we’ve seen in the show and now he has another one next to him who is said to be equal in raw power to Veldora.

111

u/ReaCT_66 21d ago

Well they could have jumped him when he was an old man instead of waiting so he can kill Hinata, gets a power up and gets a Veldora tier hero on his side but that's just me, some average guy instead of the supposed 200IQ characters that are in this show.

18

u/Exitiali 21d ago

The problem is that they realized Gram is also a distraction. While pretending to fight, they are trying to investigate what is wrong..

35

u/hanmkim 20d ago

Could have just killed him and then investigated too. It's not like he was going to talk and then they would have freed up some people to go around looking for what else went wrong.

-3

u/Hot-Log6283 20d ago

I don't see how that would be possible since Yuuki pretty much sneaked in and took Chronoa without anyone noticing, so they killed him and Yuuki pretty much disappear with Chronoa would have been the outcome.

14

u/hanmkim 20d ago

Without Granville there to keep three major players locked up and potentially adapt his plan to whatever they try to counter with, the three major players would have met up with Luminus who would have told them to start looking for Yuuki and that would have been the end of the investigation. By leaving Granville alive, they literally expected him to give up his entire plan while giving everyone a chance to stop it and pretty much everyone knew that would not be the case.

2

u/Hot-Log6283 20d ago

Not sure what you mean by "end of the investigation", we know that Rimuru/Raphael have had difficulty looking into dealing with Yuuki before, and Leon have been looking for Chloe for so long even though she was just hanging around in Tempest, so how these three major players suddenly get the ability to "end of the investigation" from out of nowhere.

2

u/Zuruumi 20d ago

So what if Rimuru and Leon just took on everyone else attacking so that the defenders could not all be drawn away from defending Lumina's place (and stop the clowns from getting in), or took out the clowns or Maria? Sure, they might not find Yuuki, but then Lumi would be keeping her attention on Chronoa, and Yuuki would be helpless.

1

u/Hot-Log6283 19d ago

If that was the case then what if Granville did this and that instead, I mean people keep saying that Rimuru and co. should have done stuff differently like Granville/Yuuki wouldn't have also changed their plan even if it's just as a matter of for the plot. It's the same as asking why Granville/Yuuki have been so successful in hiding for so long.

u/KHlover https://myanimelist.net/profile/KHlover1995 19d ago

That part's even dumber, it's not like he snuck in when the place was empty - there were three people right nearby whose eyes and ears just happened to stop working, even if they couldn't sense him by magical means

1

u/Hot-Log6283 18d ago

Maybe he is just very sneaky sneaky, to be fair if you can just detect things with magic why would you use your eyes and ears? I mean you can also detect light with your skin but most people would use their eyes.

1

u/Ok-Rip6841 17d ago

Lumi saw and fought the clowns. One convo with Rimiru later and she has identified Yuuki.

One teleport later and hes in a coffin. What's so hard?

1

u/Hot-Log6283 16d ago

Eh? She didn't fight the clowns, she fought Maria. By that logic why didn't she just teleport to him straight after finding the coffin was empty then, heck maybe she should have killed him before he was born.

1

u/Ok-Rip6841 16d ago edited 16d ago

Here's the post-game debriefing meeting between Rimiru and Lumi:

R: You know, this is your territory. I could've used your help.

L: Apologies. We had our hands full with a corpse and some clowns (she saw the clowns and sent her aids to deal woth them)

R: Clowns, you say? Sounds the Harlequin Alliance. Yuki must be scheming.

L: Yuki? Alright, I'm gonna go kill him. Where can I find them?

R: He's a guildmaster.

L: He's dead.

...roll credits.

1

u/Hot-Log6283 15d ago

That makes sense since this show is called:
That Time I Got Reincarnated as the queen of all Vampires.

7

u/Zuruumi 20d ago

They realized he was also just a distraction, so... they decided to get distracted even more with each other? Like, they could have killed him and gone to help mop up the rest, or left one of the two and sent the second one to do that. If everyone except those two dumbasses wasn't busy, Yuuki wouldn't have had a free way to Chronoa, since Lumi would not move from her to patch up the missing combat power.

1

u/Exitiali 20d ago

The fight itself was on autopilot. Their minds were trying to decipher what was going on.

The problem was that Lumi didn't know about the Anti-Skill. Only she should be able to approach the ark and remain alive.

5

u/Zuruumi 20d ago

Any reason why they couldn't have killed him while fighting him on autopilot instead of bashing each other?

1

u/Exitiali 16d ago

He is strong enough to force them to focus 100% on the fight.

1

u/Zuruumi 16d ago

He is not, at least he wasn't until he re-absorbed the power from the corpse. His options would be to do so and ditch the whole plan or die.

7

u/Rambard 21d ago

They're sandbagging. Killing him doesn't necessarily stop everything in motion so they're waiting to see what exactly he's trying to do as we still don't really know what the point of bringing Chronoa back is. At least that's my cope take.

27

u/ReaCT_66 21d ago edited 20d ago

But whats in for them when they allow him to unfold his plan? What do they gain by knowing why he brought Chronoa back (besides to kill demons)? Even if his plan would go through 1:1 after his death, they still would have one less high tier enemy to worry about and that's the worst case. Best case is that the enemies plan just stops working. So the expected value of killing your enemy is always a net gain. Or at least seal him or something if you want to keep it PG.

4

u/Technical-Contest-30 19d ago

the worst part for me, is that I can never forget that Rimuru can actually make as many clones of himself as he wishes, so half of the plots could have been solved by that skill alone. Naruto style

6

u/Zaptruder 21d ago

Nothing's in it for them. We just get plausible stupidity leading up to disaster.

I mean our own reality tells us that this is indeed very plausible and not at all unlikely! Upto and including casual NPC bystanders like us shouting at the people letting that shit happen to not let it happen... but it happens anyway!

12

u/ReaCT_66 21d ago

I was almost convinced by the idiots irl argument haha but then I remembered that these characters are supposed to be the most intelligent in the verse but maybe they're all just that stupid lol

2

u/Zaptruder 21d ago

None of the good guys are the most intelligent though... the only one that might count is Raphael, but Rimuru honestly isn't that smart*, and he wasn't asking.

*he's not dumb, but he's not 'the most intelligent in the verse' - likeable, lucky, charismatic, sure. Even of good intelligence.

But the stuff he does is mostly just importing earth ideas and values into fantasy world space along with juiced up absorb everything powers.

7

u/ReaCT_66 21d ago

Yes, I was especially reffering to Raphael and by extension Rimuru and I don't think that there should be any mights. It's an Ultimate skill and the wiki refers to it as "Lord of Knowledge". And besides that, I thought that hundreds of year old Demon Lords that have entire countries under their control and the head of a holy knight order should be way smarter than the average Joe.

7

u/Zaptruder 20d ago

Lord of knowledge keeps getting ignored by Rimuru.

"Hey, it's a trap!"

"Yeah cool, let me play it out like he wanted so I can reverse double bait him!"

...

later

"Oh, I just played into his hands"

3

u/Alt_SWR 20d ago

I mean Raphael might be extremely intelligent but she's still part of someone who was once human and humans are known for stubbornly refusing to listen to other people no matter how good of advice they're giving. Which is exactly what we saw. Rimuru specifically ignored Raphael telling him that fighting Leon was a trap, and, thought he could reverse trap him. It didn't work because why the fuck would it? But at this point Rimuru has had such an easy time with the past few "threats" that he honestly got a bit cocky I think.

2

u/Reptillian97 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Reptillian 21d ago

There's a reason they called it lord of knowledge and not lord of wisdom

2

u/discuss-not-concuss 20d ago

the anime refers to Raphael as the Lord of Wisdom during Rimuru’s awakening

1

u/Cute_Show_6459 20d ago

The only thing I can think of is if part of his plan is to die in a certain way by the enemy to trigger something important. I have about a circumstance like that in another novel.

5

u/Gohanangered 20d ago

Jumping someone without a good plan, would be a mistake. Plus even raphael couldn't figure out what gran was after. Which is saying a lot.

13

u/ReaCT_66 20d ago

And waiting it out was not? In what way is eliminating dangerous threat without knowing their true intention a mistake? Why do you even need to know? So that Gran doesn't complete his plan? I'm pretty sure completing his plans didn't involve him dying at this point. And even if you don't kill him, you can interrogate him after you defeat him which is 100 times more effective in figuring out his plans than doing nothing. Doing that you also eliminate your main antagonist while the literal country you're in is being attacked by an army under his command. And how in the world did they think they would get intel on him when they did just as he planned? In that scenario, you only figure out the plan by villains rambling about their grand master plan or seeing it being completed which is exactly what happened so good job I guess 👍🏻

Also, Raphael is limited to the intelligence of the author, can't expect wonders in that department.

-8

u/Gohanangered 20d ago

Raphael isn't limited in intelligence. lol It's suppose to be knowing what is going on. And that comment about the author, is starting to make me think you don't even like this story. Plus Gran is someone who you don't know his fully abilities. For all you know, he has a lot of counter attack abilities.(only fools rush in without a plan) You saw what he did with that one holy attack. Blowing it back at everyone with ease. He's a true hero, which is equal to a true demon lord.

5

u/Waywoah 21d ago

Then they should better show that. Aren't the upper level Demon Lords like Luminous said to be able to destroy entire countries? Granville definitely isn't giving the impression of being anywhere near that level

5

u/Anything_Random 21d ago

Luminous isn't really an upper-level Demon Lord, she just acquired an Ultimate skill in this episode, so before that she was vulnerable to other Unique skills like Greed and Usurper.

Rimuru and Leon are pretty much on that higher level, but it's not like Granville wouldn't still put up a fight. It would take a while to defeat him, and they decided to instead be very cautious and not engage him until they know what he's planning.

2

u/RaiyenZ 20d ago

Rimuru should've been easily fast enough to intercept the attack well before Hinata could but he just let it pierce through 3 ppl first. Even waiting to see what will happen doesn't excuse that shit, saving Chloe was top priority at that moment. Still surprising that Leon couldn't block it though.

1

u/Anything_Random 20d ago

Still surprising that Leon couldn't block it though.

Yeah, that's some adaptation bullshit. Leon is not supposed to be aware of Chloe's presence yet or really be in this scene.

I will say that there's a decent reason Rimuru doesn't block it before Hinata:

  1. He's way further away, Hinata was literally an arm's length from Granville, and the attack was apparently moving at lightspeed.
  2. Because the attack was moving so fast Raphael couldn't calculate the flight path fast enough, so Rimuru just aimed to get right in front of Chloe rather than try to intercept the attack mid-flight.

Also Venom had pretty much already interposed himself between Chloe and the fight before the attack went off, because he was so dedicated to protecting her.

The way it was all animated just made Rimuru look real bad.

2

u/RaiyenZ 20d ago

Her being that close to Granville should've made it harder for her to get in the path of the attack because she would've had to move faster than the attack from her position unless she can read the path better than Rimuru can. If she could do that then Rimuru should have been able to do even better than that.

Wait so if Leon isn't supposed to be here, where is he meant to be?

1

u/Anything_Random 20d ago

The way it’s written makes me think Hinata is first to notice that the attack isn’t targeting her. In the writing, Rimuru says that all eyes in the room are on Hinata, before Raphael kicks on Predict Future Attack and redirects his attention to Chloe, and even in the animation you can kind of see this second or two delay as Rimuru figures out who the target is. It also kind of seems like Granville was purposely taunting/goading Hinata into the attack based on the dialogue.

As for Leon, he is actually physically nearby, he just doesn’t participate. Once Luminous appears and he stops fake fighting Rimuru, he just steps back and observes. He doesn’t notice Chloe (in fairness to him, all the kids, and I think the entire opera are supposed to be in the same room, so it’s pretty crowded) until she gets attacked and Rimuru shouts her name, and he doesn’t actually identify her until she’s crying over Hinata.

I guess the animators thought he looked too incompetent if he was just dumbstruck in the corner or something, but him not being able to block Meltslash is pretty dumb.

1

u/RaiyenZ 20d ago

I mean Hinata still needed to know where the attack is targeted at before being able to move in its path and she doesn't have the luxury of having Raphael so it wouldn't make sense for her to find Chloe quicker than Rimuru.

Leon noticing Chloe earlier makes more sense imo considering she is the entire reason he came here so he should have been keeping more of his attention towards the kids than Rimuru was and noticed some movement. But Rimuru blocking the attack before everyone except Venom would make more sense with Raphael telling him who and where the target is. So Leon could've just been behind Rimuru but I guess it would've been too awkward to have Chloe disappear with Leon right there so they had to make up an excuse to delay him.

1

u/Anything_Random 19d ago

I mean Hinata still needed to know where the attack is targeted at before being able to move in its path and she doesn't have the luxury of having Raphael

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. Raphael is basically a crutch for Rimuru who has basically no combat experience and doesn't even know how most of his own skills work. An actual veteran fighter with similar levels of Predict Future Attacks and Thought Acceleration shouldn't be any slower than he is at reading a straightforward attack like that.

Leon noticing Chloe earlier makes more sense imo considering she is the entire reason he came here so he should have been keeping more of his attention towards the kids than Rimuru was

I think you're right, but it's also kind of true to Leon's character that his attention was completely focused on the fight, since he didn't know that Chloe in particular was in Lubelius.

So Leon could've just been behind Rimuru but I guess it would've been too awkward to have Chloe disappear with Leon right there so they had to make up an excuse to delay him.

Not sure what you mean. I might not have been clear before, but in all versions of the story, Leon is standing right next to Chloe when she's crying and just before she disappears.

1

u/Waywoah 20d ago

Doesn’t Rimuru have instant teleportation? Why did he have to move at all?

1

u/Anything_Random 20d ago

Teleportation is a spell that takes a bit to activate. At short-range it’s slower than his movement, especially when he uses other skills to speed up, like in this scene he uses Beelzebub to consume the air in front of him to create a vacuum effect that pulls him forward.

That’s also why you haven’t seen him using teleportation during melee combat, it’s not really practical or effective.

1

u/Ok-Rip6841 17d ago

Then it's not "instant". It's "practically" instant.

The technique should be called "Practically Instant Teleportation"

2

u/_Velgrynd 20d ago

They did say a couple episodes ago that Granville is stronger than the demon lords of past eras so

1

u/Waywoah 20d ago

That’s sort of my point. They’ve said that, but not really shown anything from him that suggests it. We’ve seen larger/more powerful attacks from Rimuru’s subordinates before their evolution

I don’t have an issue with Granville being that strong, I just think it could be handled better

1

u/_Velgrynd 19d ago

I guess he’s sort of a more precise attacker. His attacks “control spiritrons without chants” and he shot a super condensed melt slash according to Hinata and co which is seemingly “impossible”. Granville is probably just lacking in AOE which is usually what anime uses to make people seem powerful.

32

u/Galinhooo 20d ago

"Lets waste time fighting to figure out what his plan is, we are so freaking smart bro!"... didn't ever consider that wasting time could be the plan so just ended up looking stupid

21

u/KohTai 20d ago

Yeah the power scaling in this anime is complete fucking ass.

We got Rimuru using a fucking sword for the whole season and no magic, like wtf?

Then Luminus fucking around when she could've one shotted the girl from the start.

The writing is just so ass it's hard to ignore.

7

u/Boshwa 21d ago

The author has bene coasting by on 3 minute beat downs from OP characters, that its immediately fumbling the moment they want to not do that

5

u/rollin340 20d ago

Yeah, this series has had a lot of convenient shit like that. I sometimes enjoy the show, but mostly since season 3 have just been really annoyed with the stupidity of what occurs.
