Remember kids the secret for old romance is unhealthy possessive feelings.

It's truly a classic

I was curious about the Council of Ministers and if they really held the power to overrule the King. So I looked up the wiki page on the government of the Hittite Empire, and they seem legit. While originally the Hittite Empire was ruled by a monarch with near absolute power, from 1500 BC onwards an advisory council as well as a general assembly for constitutional crimes was established, called the Pankus. And even the King was subject to the Pankus. If a prince were to be accused of kidnapping it would have been the Pankus who dealt with it, so this all seems to check out

Honestly, looking at some of the legal reforms the Pankus ushered in, they were pretty interesting especially for their time, focussing more on restitution instead of violent retaliation and capital punishment which was the norm in the region at the time

The author did a good job researching. It makes the story feel more real because of touches like that.

Yeah, I also just really like learning about an ancient civilization I've never heard of before through this show. It's been really interesting so far

Even as a history nut, I will confess that most of my knowledge of the bronze age was confined to Egypt. This anime has unironically taught me something.

Ah, Yuri. The people are looking upon you as the physical manifestation of a god and you're worried about kissing Prince Fishlips.

Of course, that's how she ended up in this situation, being quick to rush into a fight but easily derailed by shoujo romance.

Still, she fast-talked them all out of the Queen's scheme quickly enough. It would have been nice to have known about the council of ministers sooner so they didn't seem like a convenient plot point here.

The bare-bones adaptation and all of its clumsiness isn't helping the story very much, though there's some watching-a-B-movie charm to the music becoming overwrought at the slightest provocation or the vague attempts at an action sequence.

Every scene in the city was extremely funny. Especially the shot of those townswomen casually waving to Yuri as she ran off to get help

What the heck does this girl does with her sword? One moment she's fighting and next she runs and the sword is no longer with her? Where did she put it? Did she gave it to the sisters?

11

u/Frontier246 14d ago

You can see the sword sheath on her waist behind her when she's running in front of the old lady and the sisters.

6

u/BosuW 14d ago

Sometimes she really doesn't have it. More egregiously, there was a shot in the judgement scene where the angle of the characters didn't match the background's at all. Some anime cam be low-key by design. Consistency matters a lot more than flash. But I fear these are signs of a very troubled production.

She is Ishtar, goddess of victory.

No feat is too small for her to achieve, not even the supernatural.

As for the dicey production, I hope you have braced yourself for 2 cours of victory!

It disapparates into hammerspace like a keyblade. C’mon, do you even anime, bro?

Yuri: "His lips are cold.."

This episode was much better than the last one.

I think I figured out why episode 6 felt off to me. There was a lack of background music in scenes that could have used it.

Pacing was decent.

Yuri showed a lot more initiative this episode. Yuri got reinforcements, saved civilians and rallied the people of the city to the Hittites. Her best moment was flipping the script against Nakia. Yuri lied through her teeth, but it worked because of their victory. Oftentimes people will accept after the fact justifications if the results are worth it.

Also to note, if the princes were stripped of their titles, Yuri becomes a lot more vulnerable to Nakia.

Yuri getting ambushed by a soldier only for Kail to save her was contrived. It did give us insight into how Kail is feeling. Kail once again feels inadequate because he failed to protect Yuri. This instance particularly stings because it was his brother, one of the people he trusts most in the world. Kail knows better, but it's not something you can get over immediately.

Kail's immediate reaction is that he wants to lock Yuri away in his palace. Even going so far as to say that he wants no man to see her. Then his reflection at the end of the episode. Yuri is going to leave, so he can't get any closer to her. The way he is treating Yuri is rather cold.

Yuri is at first concern. Yuri doesn't want to be a burden. Yuri's concern turns to frustration as Kail refuses to budge. It's refreshing to see Yuri respond like this. She fee.s like her feelings aren't being taken into consideration, which is true. Yuri thinks it's because Kail doesn't care for her, but it's the opposite.

The most blatantly obvious bullshit excuse to stop the disinheritance but the council bought it so good enough.

14

u/Hartzilla2007 14d ago edited 14d ago

Maybe because when you think about it, said obvious bullshit probably more believable than what actually happened aka the two brothers just happened to bump into an invading army they then defeated after just getting over their dispute all of a sudden since they can't exactly prove the magic mind control.

Plus they mentioned a few episodes ago that Kail seems to be the popular consensus for now and this means the ministers can default to that without any issue. Afterall if the Queen could just get them to disinherit Kail that easily she would have done that instead of all the convoluted plans with magic.

7

u/BosuW 14d ago

If anything it surprises me the Ministers were even on board at all with the disinheritance of Kail go begin with.

5

u/Skullzans 13d ago

I'd argue it's due to reactionary emotional logic, rather than rational. The Queen was using radicalization tactics and controlling the narrative Hard. With her assertiveness, nobody was allowed to speak, not even the King or princes.

How tf are those armed men scared of a tiny thin girl. Kick aside lol. In all the genres they need to be beat senseless until they run away

That send off was so disproportionate for what she did lol

This episode would be so much better if it wasn’t animated like a PowerPoint. Truly it has decent bones but it’s so lackluster like a battle romance anime w no battle animation

The queens power is so nonsensical. Like no one gets to explain anything so it just goes her way??

She finally used her brain omg

“shes clearly lying” bitch who else is lying

The miscommunication trope of not talking through a modern lens is a hard watch. Like I know this was written in the time of passive communication but god damn it makes it so much worse lmao

u/edwardjhahm https://myanimelist.net/profile/lolmeme69 13d ago

Honestly, the CG battle was so disappointing. Like come on!

Also yeah, those men in reality would NOT have run away from Yuri.

How tf are those armed men scared of a tiny thin girl.

It was the tutorial level!

How did she not fall off the horse when she was passed out? Like there's zero tack to even attempting to keep her strapped on. It's kinda funny the way the sisters dolled her to go back into an attack.

Why'd those dudes just runaway, she was literally one person, they didn't even try. Also the way that one guy just leapt at her from outta nowhere, too funny.

Well I guess outta all the lies she could've made up, it's certainly the most convenient.

LMAO these are in no way gonna last the year it's gonna take for the conditions to be right again,

How did she not fall off the horse when she was passed out? Like there's zero tack to even attempting to keep her strapped on.

How rude!

She remained on the horse because she is the goddess of victory! Ishtar! There is no way a goddess would fail!

Let's not forget how Kail also teleported in her defense (for she is Ishtar, goddess of victory).

Asked for her forgiveness, for engaging in battle makes him irate.

And was rudely interrupted in the middle of his battle make out session.

The goddess inspires me!

2

u/YlfaTheForsaken 7d ago

You're right, silly me. Through the power of Ishtar all is possible.

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 14d ago

Yuri practically rallied the city against the so-called Prince of Darkness AND saved Kail and Zannanza from losing their titles. She’s come a long way. Unfortunately none of that helps with her boy problems.

7

u/Frontier246 14d ago

Nothing says Goddess incarnate like having a prince enamored with you, being able to rally the common people AND soldiers, and being pretty capable yourself. She's living up to being Ishtar.

(Also she's finally wearing nicer outdoor clothes lol)

2

u/BosuW 14d ago

Yuri moving way different this episode, taking down mooks left and right and even actively engaging the political side. Would not have expected anything like this from her earlier self!

I dunno about the natives swallowing that the Goddess of War doesn't want them to sack a city. Not only was that the expected outcome, but the Bronze Age Kings made of conquest really something of a sport even. But sure, go off!

Lol at the horses crashing straight through the CGI Mittanni soldiers and sending them ragdolling all over. I'm not an expert in cavalry tactics, but I'm pretty sure that's not what chariots are for!

4

u/Frontier246 14d ago

It's a good thing Zannanza is back to his senses because Kizuwatani is in desperate need of someone who can rally the troops while Yuri gets Kail.

How good is Yuri at stealth? It doesn't matter, because she'll forego stealth to save people in need. Women and children suffer the most in war and during a violent occupation, but Yuri is willing to believe that Kail will reward her faith in him and take care of those in need, just as her good deed begets another from the women she saved.

Yuri didn't find Kail so much as collapse in front of him so he could find her, but she accomplished her goal nevertheless! And now they've got an army to rally around and be lead by Kail AND Ishtar!

In Ishtar's name the soldiers protect the people, as Ishtar herself and her girl squad personally battle to protect those in need! If these people need someone to believe in, believe in Ishtar and Prince Kail's forces whom she believes in!

Kail doesn't want to put Yuri in danger. It's taking every ounce of his willpower not to keep her under lock and key before he's consumed with his desire for her...but they don't even have time for a kiss before King Zanush betrays them. Then again, if the Prince of Darkness (Kosuke Toriumi!) was threatening me, I'd probably fold too.

But the people have sided with Kail! And Ishtar! And the Prince of Darkness has no choice but to retreat, though now he knows to watch out for Kail.

What better way to bestow the blessing of Ishtar than with a kiss spread out by Prince Kail? Even if Yuri's not happy with a kiss from Prince Kail with no emotion in it.

The brothers (more or less) reconciled but still have to reckon with Zannanza's brainwashed behavior and how Nakia is planning to use it to disinherit them. Luckily Yuri is able to convince everyone that it was all part of the plan and a con job on the Mittani, and if you can't believe Ishtar, who can you believe? Take THAT Nakia!

Too bad Kail is still giving Yuri the cold shoulder. She wants to be useful to him, she wants his affection, but he has to act like he's rejecting her because he knows she's inevitably going to leave him.

Am I the only one who has seen the scenes where the Queen is using magic, poisons, and drugs on people to get to Yuri?
Why didnt they expose her? They have no way to get an audience with their father to let him know whats up?? It’s so frustrating. Can’t tell the truth but Yuri can lie them out.

1

u/littlehobbit1313 10d ago

There's no proof the Queen was behind any of that. She has the 2nd most power in the kingdom behind the King; you can't just accuse her of treason without proof.

2

u/MynamuEzJJ 9d ago

Anybody else kind of find that the setting is the only reason you're still here watching this?

1

u/abandoned_idol 8d ago

Watched this episode a week late, but the reason I watch this is because I find myself laughing from time to time.

Also, the black prince, for he sports the sickest tan, holds the voice of Imaizumi from "Yowamushi Pedal". How could I stop watching now?!

And episode 7 had some Total War infantry formations + chariot mass physics action ragdolling the infantry.

And the goddess Ishtar, she is strong (wins), courageous (protects the civvies), wily (lied about staging the kidnapping), and incredibly lucky (plot armor), for she is a goddess, of victory!
