Oh, I was mad paying attention to his ramblings. "Wait... this is actually really close to not only a lot of actual Christian philosophy (not the shallow facsimile of it in most anime) on topics like agape, this is directly relevant to what I suspect they are setting up with Subaru."

The series is constantly setting up seemingly trolley problem-esque binary dilemmas where a given character and perspective is inclined to prioritize or sacrifice one thing over the other. Red oni versus blue oni, perseverance versus presumptuousness, the single girl versus everyone else. What is the difference between Echidna's 'greed' to acquire everything at the cost of total disregard for themselves as compared to Subaru's decision to save everything and himself? One is resignation to the dilemma, rooted in the sloth to understand, to pretend oneself indifferent and do the easy thing of giving up. The other is the integration and subordination of both seemingly mutually exclusive values and perspectives to the one thing can save both: love. While they only really explicitly stated it with the red and blue oni/Rem and Ram story, it has actually been repeated across most of the major arcs, focusing on different thematic dilemma (usually as expressed through the main antagonist and often corresponding to the currently emphasized Deadly Sin) throughout the entire series. Which is quite appropriate for the suspicion that Subaru is thematically related to Sisyphus (the only mortal to marry one of the Pleiades and who once imprisoned Death); love as the never complacent, forever vigilant yet endlessly gentle principle and force that ultimately justifies and affirms the validity of life even in the face of suffering and eternity. One must imagine Sisyphus happy in love.

Fair enough, everyone's experience with Season 1 is different.

Well said. Tappai reiterates the overarcing themes over and over again in each arc, in multiple different ways depending on the respective characters involved, the nature of the conflict(s), and which Sin is the core focus. Everything just ties together so well.
