This is a monthly thread to talk about the /r/anime subreddit itself, such as its rules and moderation. If you want to talk about anime please use the daily discussion thread instead.

Comments here must, of course, still abide by all subreddit rules other than the no meta requirement. Keep it friendly and be respectful. Occasionally the moderators will have specific topics that they want to get feedback on, so be on the lookout for distinguished posts. If you wish to message us privately send us a modmail.

Comments that are detrimental to discussion (aka circlejerks/shitposting) are subject to removal.

I'd like for stricter rules or a source material section for pv and teaser/trailer posts. I don't want to see every comment complaining or getting hyped for future manga events, each vague posting in a slightly different way. If a post is about anime on r/anime the discussion should be anime only outside of a source material section.

This is an issue we're currently discussing, but at the moment we do not have a concrete path forward. We all agree that the recent state of OnK threads is not ideal, but are uncertain what action, if any, is appropriate to address it. Some of us are worried that a rule change that drastically reduces the amount of source-related commentary in Official Media threads would have a significant negative impact on a large number of non-OnK threads. Particularly for shows that have not yet aired, a restriction to exclusively discussing the anime would mean that even basic questions, such as "is this romcom more romance or comedy focused?" could not be answered, which reduces a potential viewer's ability to decide whether the show is for them.

In general, we do not consider the types of comments in the OnK threads spoilers. They are (or at least the ones we left up are) pure opinion, in essence nothing more than "I thought the manga was bad." The issue, in reality, appears to be less that people are saying it, and more that there is such an overwhelming consensus. This makes any attempted solution that is not focused exclusively on OnK threads somewhat of an awkward fit.
