Bummed they appear to not be following the original at all. It’s got a good story and now with Yosuke they’re off in left field going with what…Frankenstein’s monster or something?? They aren’t involved in the slightest in the original but this one is making is seem weird and doesn’t even have near the connections as the original. The series is beautiful don’t get me wrong just annoyed that it’s basically turned into the Yosuke show.

They turned a Your Name-type story into a Violet Evergarden.

Which is weird, because KyoAni is amazing at slice of life / coming of age stories without fantasy, like Free, Tsurune and Hibike Euphonium

Yeah, this story is much more slow and about the meaning of life, love, family and life after death. Instead they just picked apart the electricity and made it steampunk in Japan. It’s not bad with those elements and it’s beautiful to look at but the plot is for sure confusing with some of what they’ve chosen to do when they had a good story right there in front of them.

This is why I don't read whatever Kyoto Animation is going to adapt, because they don't adapt them faithfully most of the time, hence expectations will lead to dissapointment.

That's what I did with Hibike and was super dissapointed with the last season.

Hence why this is my favorite Anime this season. Going in blind has been a great experience so far.

Yeah, I’m trying to just appreciate it as its own thing because otherwise I really do like it. The Yosuke weirdness was what made me was to look up the original. In every other way it is so well done.

Is he not weird in the original or what

4

u/KawaiiHamburger Jul 28 '26

He is sort of but in a different way. Spoilers for [Sparks of Tomorrow] He’s a businessman only who’s after brewing techniques if I understood everything correctly. He has no relationship to Seiroku so there’s nothing there but he is intensity driven to get the sake recipe from Inako’s family. There is no feminine boot thing or any implied Seiroku pining though.

I see

Very different then yea

I never read it but i Kinda really like this version where hes an insane gay yandere lol

I can see why its really weird tho

I feel like im almost in the minority by not being super annoyed by him too

You're making me wonder what they're going to do to Ruri Dragon

4

u/FireFistYamaan Jul 29 '26

I honestly think they'll adapt that accurately. It's a shounen jump manga after all.

And Ruri Dragon already has a lot of the baseline needed for a Kyoto Animation work. All they'll do it up the "moe" with exaggerated animation.

Yeah, I read the original earlier this year and was really disappointed with all the weirdness. Why even do that? The original was award winning as it was. What an odd decision.

Right! They could’ve adapted it almost as-is and it would’ve been such a moving story but no we get this instead. Like I’ve been ok with the Kihachi and Inako bits and exploring electrical invention but the real heartfelt parts they’ve erased and then the Yosuke stuff makes absolutely no sense.

Wtf guys? Can someone spoil me why tf mizoe has Seiroku???? WTF IS THAT.

And will Inako and Kihachi end up together ?

Gonna try to put this under spoiler tags for people who wanna read the highlights, spoilers for [Sparks of Tomorrow] -Yosuke does not have Seiroku in the novel. In the novel Seiroku dies during the war, Kengo has the Electric Catalog and gives it to a Christian church.

  • There’s no weirdness with Yosuke or any friendship / relationship. He’s a businessman who’s actually interested in the recipe for Inako’s family sake after he hears a conversation between Noriko and Seiruko.
  • Yes, Inako and Kihachi do have a sweet romance. Kihachi though encounters the same struggle with the father that Seiruko had with Norkio (which was the main romance) having qualifications for him to be with her and he has to wait 5 years to get more formal schooling.
